Talbot was sharp and it sucks to waste that performance. Three days of practice didn’t seem to help at all because the execution wasn’t there for the most of the night. Lots of bobbled, inaccurate passes and the team trying to be way too cute in the offensive zone. Backlund? Man, c’mon that was a back breaker. Besides Talbot none of the ex-Oilers have done practically anything all season. Lucic and a Reider have a combined 32 games, 0 goals, 4 assists and a -9. Jankowski is invisible and Johnny/Tkachuk/Monahan/Lindholm get no secondary support. They need to be lights out or we have little chance. Lets hope it’s a case of the team gripping the sticks too tight when the backup is in and they have a better performance with Rittich back in net.

Not a fun night.
Reider has a goal

Janko is useless, hard to argue here instead of Dube right now. Cant imagine our record looks much better with Stone over Killer. Bennet sucks

I wish Jankowski could do something actually good this year. Still waiting for that...

Chucky must be so frustrated...best forward on this team by far, and gets saddled with just garbage on his line. If the first line was clicking, fine, then leave him with Backlund and whatever plug they throw on the right side. But with no production from the first, why not try Lindholm and Tkachuk. Of course, the issue being, who do you throw on that first line? The missing top 6 player that was supposed to be Neal, Kadri or Zucker is just killing this team right now.

Bennett just has zero hockey IQ. Flames cause a turnover in the neutral zone down a goal, with 5 or 6 to go, entering the zone with Johnny and Mony, and he peels off for a change?!? WTF...go to the net and look for something.

There are clearly some problems with this team (book seems to be out on Johnny, frustrate him and he folds; zero progression and actual regression from Eat Bread and Janko; Gio out of God mode), and there are no easy answers on the farm or via the trade market. If they are going to progress, it will have to come from the current group.

So I admittedly don't watch any Minnesota Wild games, so can somebody please tell me why so many people are so butt hurt that we never acquired 5G-6A-11P and -10 Jason Zucker?

Would this guy really be making a difference? Weren't we also rumored to be giving up a 1st round pick in addition to Frolik too?

Boring game. Is the ice is bad or players bad. Can't make or receive pass. The Puck jumping all over the ice.

At least Chicago did us big favor by beating Vegas tonight.

And Janko needs to go to Stockton to get his game and speed back. Too slow and weak.

Well, grass is always greener with a different face, but in this case, it doubles the goal scoring of our current second line center. And Minnesota has played 3 less games and overall has scored 13 less goals then the Flames.

It would push Backlund to the third line and a more comfortable (albeit overpaid) role. Tkachuk needs a trigger man and finisher, and one who will get a bit dirty and get into the mud to score goals.

Again, it’s a situation on the second line that Treliving doesn’t like, and identified as such over the summer. The second line does not help the first line, and didn’t down the stretch and in the playoffs, because it doesn’t scare any other team. That allows teams to focus on the top line, which is why he tried to get both Zucker and Kadri to get a different style of center for Tkachuk and build 2/3 of a true second scoring line.

Scoring chances were 8-1 Stars, so it was actually much worse.

Pretty sure Zucker is LW.

I could get on board with the much talked about Kadri trade that never happened for many of the reasons you described, but I really don't get the appeal with Zucker, not to mention another $1.2M in cap hit over Frolik and the 1st round pick....

For the salary, it's another good player.

They're old Oilers, don't see the need to keep them.

First line has been bad for a while, and Tkachuk is just being wasted on a line with no finish Backlund.

Gaudreau - Lindholm -Tkachuk
Mang - Monahan - Benett
Reider - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Ryan - Janko
