People underrate Brodie.
Ya he does some stupid #### every once in a while but that's because he has the puck and takes chances. If he just played everything safe, yes the errors would fall but so would all the good things he creates.
"He gets pushed off the puck and gives the puck away sometimes" Yes, those are legitimate issues but if he didn't do those things he would be a top 10-20 defender with his skill set. Those issues drop him to a top 40-50 defender. They don't make him trash.
I love Rasmus but he has a long way to go before he catches Brodie.

Maybe but the play he was criticized for last night wasn't high risk-high reward. It was only high risk.

And yet he got 2 points, and a positive corsi on 16.7% offensive starts.
The whole team had defensive collapses last night. But for some reason this site only seems to notices Brodies.

I'm no Brodie hater. He does, however, seem to be the guy whose mistake have much more proximity to a goal against for some reason. I think FWIW his mistakes tend to be (a) more noticeable because they are usually in relatively open ice near the blue line and (b) often when Gio is also pressing on the other side, so there's quite often no help coming.
Really, on the one big error last night - that was a rookie mistake, so yeah, he got BBQd for it.

eh
here is the play in question:
First he seems to be getting the pass behind him, which costs him some decision-making time
second, he goes for a simple bank play off the boards. Doesn't seem like a rookie mistake to me, most times out of a hundred that's a safe play. The execution was botched, partially because of the initial pass behing behind him.
third, backlund and giordano on paper were both able to recover. Giordano needed to cover the pass while Backlund covered the puck carrier Huberdeau, but instead their miscommunication led to Huberdeau getting a clean snipe away. Backlund needed to tie up Huberdeau's stick... mistakes happen, the elite teams cover them.
fourth, that was still a saveable shot on Rittich's part.
Yes, Brodie messed up. But I don't think it's a so-called 'bbq'-worthy play.

He got the pass a tad behind, but it actually created a perfect angle to find the two wide open guys across the ice, with no Panthers between.
Instead he tried to pass through a Panther's stick - not IMO a simple bank, to a player who was going to be immediately covered. So no reward was coming, for the risky play of passing under an opponent's stick.
I don't disagree that Rittich probably makes that save most times. But when you make a mistake in that position, with players moving the wrong way, you are almost always putting the others in a position where they will be hard pressed to recover.

Lipstick on a pig man, he bbq'd it. You really think its a coincidence so many say he makes so many blunders that wind up in the back of the net? Its because its true. Does he make lots of outstanding plays too? yes! and they do outweigh the bad but he has a knack for botching a play that winds up in the back of the net.

Agree, generally, not a big deal. Plenty of credit to go around. Panthers chipped the puck to a place, and win the race there.
Not sure I agree how saveable that is. If it’s, say, Monahan, it’s a beauty snipe. Don’t know why opposing players never get credit for great shots.
Two points and a win, take them and run
