Ahh, good catch. I didn't even think to check that. Yeah, that likely puts him out of reach for us.
Maybe Forsling at 875K is more intriguing.

Sprong, Ho Sang, Djoos, DeSmith... this feels like the most enticing waiver pool in quite a while. Even Quine arguably deserves a chance to stick somewhere.
I especially like Sprong among that group, his goal scoring last year (14G in 47 NHL GP) would be something our team could use. Lucic - Bennett - Sprong anyone?

If the Flames have room for him, I think Sprong would be a good fit here. Another right shot sniper is what our team kind of lacks. He's a bit of a black hole defensively, but perhaps he'd fit in here as we have good two-way players who can help make up for his defensive lapses. He's a cheaper Czarnik with more upside I think.

They will still need to count the majority of his cap though, any savings will be minimal.

Some interesting names on the list today. Is this the final waiver day, or can players be waived tomorrow as well?

I was watching Sprong play the other night on TV and was really unimpressed. Yes, it's only preseason, but he seems like the kind of player that has the skill and potential that just doesn't or can't put it all together consistently. Seems like the kind of player we'd be very frustrated with. And for a team that has a window of about 3 years or so of 'going for it' I don't think inserting projects into the lineup is the right move. A bottom feeder like the Oilers? Probably wouldn't hurt to take a chance.

875 is likely still too high for the Flames to pick up. It basically would have to be 700k or very close.

The Flames don't need to be dumpster diving, unless it's to fill slots in Stockton. Even then I'd prefer the icetime go to our prospects.

If I did the math right, 3.15M (Gagner contract) - 1.075M (min+375k) - 875k (Ho-Sang/Sprong. Sprong in cheaper) =1.2M cap space gained with Ho-Sang.
I think that is a no brainer for Edmonton. Would take Kassian off their PP.

Christian Djoos is interesting to me
25 year old, Swedish LH shot
Was great for the Capitals in the cup run but battled injury last season. Issue is $1.25M is probably too rich for our bottom pairing due to cap issues.
Forsling could be another option too.
Also would not be opposed to taking a look at Sprong. RH shots are needed on this team and he is extremely talented

Can’t claim guys off waivers to play in Stockton though.

Some interesting names on there. Played against Hickey growing up. Would be cool to see him in Calgary just for a hometown boys sake. Always thought he was at least a serviceable. Bottom pair guy, but I guess the Isles have younger options now? He never really progress as projected.

Well every GM makes bad moves ... it's a lot like a baseball average only higher (the good ones are at 65% not 99.5%).
Unless you're specifically referring to yourself in that sentence, then I would vote no ... you would make many bad moves.

I don't think you did. If you place an expensive player in the minors, you only save $1.075M from his cap hit. So, the savings would be $1.075M minus the cost of his replacement.
Your mistake was in saying that Gagner has to count $1.075 in cap hit. In fact, that's the maximum amount you save by burying him.
Otherwise tons of highly paid guys would be buried.
