1. Know your target.
2. Know your tactics.
3. Know your weapon.
1. Target. Your target is very relaxed animal that does not want to spray anything (10 days to reload). It is active at dusk and dawn. It is an omnivore that will be eating pests in your yard. Skunks are extremely near sighted and slow moving. It is polyamourous and will carry fertilized eggs until conditions are right. The female will give birth to a littler of kits (usually 2-6) in May and stay with them for about a year.
2. Tactics. Skunks will den in the ground, in an area where they feel safe. Figure out their movements. They like to stay near shelter and fence lines. If they have a burrow, fill it with newspaper and monitor the movement. Put chicken wire in all but the main entrance they are using.
3. Weapon. Moth balls or ammonia. Skunks, for some ironic reason, do not like foul smells. Put the moth balls or open containers of ammonia near the entrance to their hideout, but do not block it. The skunks will not like the smell and will move along very quickly. Urine will also do the trick.
