lol that's super cheap. Shero didn't even have to add a good prospect, and Santini isn't very good.

Consider that it took a 1st round pick to move Marleau off the books and then it seems pretty reasonable actually. The big difference being that Subban can still play at a fairly high level, although I wouldn't call him purely a "star player" at this point.
$9 million is a lot. I doubt there were many teams that could even consider trading for Subban. Limited number of suitors is a bit of a factor here.

Has Subban’s stock dropped that much? I know the analysts have said his contract is high but a pick moving damn at $9M seems very reasonable. In this era you live and die by the cap but at that price he’s worthwhile to keep around. The return seemed underwhelming as well. Makes you wonder what the word around the league is that’s spooking everyone

Marleau is still a NHL player but the cost of moving his 6.25m 1yr caphit off is already at negative value (at least a 1st).
Don't think there's that much to look into beyond this. Capspace is an incredibly valuable commodity to GMs looking to make their next mistake.

Subban seems to be kind of like Hamilton with bad contract

Subban could flourish in NJ as he know heads up the PP unit (with zero competition), and they have some pretty good skill players with Hughes, Hall etc.

So if Nashville is adding Duchene they probably want to clear out a Center.
Neal for Turris here we go

Not much of a bidding war to produce that kind of a return. I wonder how many teams arent interested in Subban at any cost? Seems like there might be a number of them.

Yeah, I quite like this deal for NJD. I think they are quietly building ...

Fantastic trade for Jersey. Davies is good prospect but a small price to pay for a guy like PK. Santini has had trouble staying in NJ lineup and they are not at all deep on the blueline.

There were rumors that the Preds were willing to retain up to $3million on Subban. If they had, the return would have likely been better and more teams involved.

Leafs tried on Subban but no way they would have ever taken on the full contract for obvious reasons. They would have wanted him as a $6M player I think. Was important to Nashville to shed the entire deal.
