If a holodeck was ever perfected, you would essentially have the ability to create your own universe and be a god in it. And really, if your senses can't tell the difference between something that's fake and something that's real, is there really a difference anymore between the two?
Not gonna lie, if given the choice between living normally in the matrix or always running from killer mechanical squid monsters in the real world, give me the matrix.

In my experience that gets old after a while. Which is why we are where we are.

I love a massive crush of humanity. I'm not a weird misanthrope like most suburban dwellers who seem to think that 1900 sq feet and a two car garage on a city lot is some kind of privacy.
I understand it is two different perspectives on living, but we subsidize on in this country and legally prevent the other. I just want some fairness.
As well, I have been to many cities in the world that could be considered densely urban, and I wouldn't say that I have felt crushed by humanity in any of them.

Different strokes, it has nothing to do with "being spoiled". I prefer nature to people. I'd rather be able to ride my bike out my back door and be on a trail in 30 seconds than walk down a busy street with restaurants. Not everyone enjoys being surrounded by people. Is that a hard concept to understand?

My Dad has blue tooth hearing aids that are connected to his cell phone. Now he can hear me just fine.

Of course not, that is why you choose to live in the country, but you also understand that the ecological footprint of Canmore is huge relative to the number of people who can live there, and is only made worse by Canmore homeowners lobbying local government to prevent zoning for more apartments/condos that would allow for more sustainable population growth.

I get greater joy sitting in my backyard, or walking to the community green area or a million other things other than being on a street of an extremely large city.

teleportation would be great. yesterday a friend invited me over to his house for beers. while I wanted to, I didn't want to take the time and hassle to bus there and home. would have been nice to teleport over.

We wouldn't have to worry about it if we didn't have so many people on this planet, and weren't obsessed with growth. The densification solution is only a solution because we seem hell bent on increasing population indefinitely. The fact that you think adding more density to Canmore would somehow reduce ecological problems indicates you don't really know what the real problems are. Mo' people = mo' problems. Increasing density= mo' problems, not solutions.

We'd need those miracle hospital beds from Elysium.

So would you trade your backyard for a nice, quiet community green area? Serious question.

No. The best part of my backyard is the distinct lack of other people.

Well the alternative to allowing endless densification is a lot worse. I'm not sure how you don't get this. More people means they need more schools, use more water, more sewage treatment, more people on the limited number of trails, reducing access for wildlife and causing more negative interactions, need more food brought in, more flood protection and on and on.
It's the cycle they've already found themselves in, becuase they made stupid decisions in the past thinking more housing would bring in more tax dollars, which it did, but it also raised expenses far beyond what they were bringing in which meant much higher taxes for previous residents. And allowing golf courses that failed catastrophically. Density doesn't solve the problems you think it does, it increases them.

In a thread about people's wishes for technologies to solve their problems, you consider dense populations to be a problem? Good luck having tech innovation without the density. Cities are the brains of our world. Dense populations are what foster the solutions to the world's problems.
