Yes, that's exactly it.

Emergencies are unpredictable and as much as we love to hear the story of the accountant who got to play an NHL game when a team lost both their goalies at the last minute, you don't want that to be your team in the playoffs.

Would Gilles be paid any different or at all with the NHL season ended and the playoffs beginning? Or is it a cost saving measure bringing him up and not having to pay his AHL salary until Sunday? If I remember correctly, he might only be on an one way contract.

It means that at the main practice group there are 4 forward lines, 4 d-pairings, and 2 goalies.

Dube, Czarnik, Quine, Kylington, Valimaki, and Gillies are practicing separately. Peters isn't a big fan of too many players at practice.
