Those are beliefs, not really opinions. What one person disagrees with is fine, a differing opinion is also fine. There is a big stretch between someone having the opinion a D man is not very good and the Earth is flat.
Most of your “beliefs” about Bouwmeester are wrong.
I believe he won a Canada Cup, Olympic Gold Medal, two World Championships, and was the reigning NHL Iron Man for several years, while being top-10 in TOI throughout his prime (including once leading the NHL in ice time).

Ok, well I think he is a mediocre D man given what I have seen of him. Others disagree. Great, the guy doesn't even play here anymore so it doesn't really matter. I will bow out because it has no bearing on the Flames and the last thing I want is to get into a heated debate about something not pertaining to the Flames when this is supposed to be a time where we all enjoy what our favourite team has and is accomplishing.
Going to explain or are you just doing a fly by for thanks from posters who obviously choose to ignore how bad Bouwmeester was for us? Kris Russell played way better for us AINEC.
How Bouwmeester played for the Flames is not relevant to how he's playing now on a cheap one year deal.
Perhaps it's you who's ignoring the player he is today?

Except you've presented the majority of your statements here as fact, not opinions.

I can't see Michael Peca without remembering how Craig Button once thought he could secure the two way play of Peca for an up and coming Jarome Iginla. Imagine if that had actually happened?

IMO there aren't many defensemen more overrated than Jay Bouwmeester.
Lets look at his last 5 seasons.
2014-15: 72 GP, 2G, 11A, 13P, +7
2015-16: 72 GP, 3G, 16A, 19P, -4
2016-17: 81 GP, 1G, 14A, 15P, -6
2017-18: 35 GP, 2G, 5A, 7P, +5
2018-19: 78 GP, 3G, 14A, 17P, -3
So underwhelming. That's Jay Bouwmeester. All for the cap hit of $5.4 million a season. At least it wasn't the 6.68M the Flames got suckered into paying for him.
Next somebody needs to tell me how good Chris Butler actually is.

Oilers suck.
Bouwmeester’s awfulness has always been overstated here.
We were sold on a guy that would provide some offense, and we never got that, but Bouwmeester was always excellent to elite defensively.
Remember that season where many of us were thinking the Flames could have 3 d on team Canada, then ended up with none? At the time Olympic team was named, I looked at stats. Bouwmeester was ahead of all 6 named team Canada in least GA per 60 min played, by a significant margin. I believe he was first in the league that first half season.
