No, it really can't be STL (0.5%) nor should they be a preference anyways.
Dallas might pass STL for 3rd in the Central, but Colorado would also need to make up 6 points on STL to pass them.
STL still plays: NJ, COL, CHI, PHI, VAN
COL plays: STL, EDM, WPG, SJS
I get what you're saying, the chances of the Flames and Blues meeting in the 1st round are quite low. The same can be said for the Knights and Flames playing in the 1st round. The Flames would have to lose their remaining games and the Sharks would have to win their remaining games. The Knights have clinched 3rd place in the Pacific Division..
Not sure how anyone could vote for a team besides Arizona. The playoffs haven't even started and they're already beaten up. Kuemper is playing well but the rest of the team isn't ready for the grind.

Because Arizona plays a very tight defensive game, Kuemper is on fire, their PK is best in the league, and they are an extremely hard working and tenacious team. Still my 2nd choice though.
Colorado is a one-line team, they aren't as tight defensively, and the Flames pretty much own them and have tons of confidence against them. If there is any team that is most likely to be the tonic to get our offense going, it's the Avs.

The main concern with the Avs is Grubauer. He is basically the only reason for this run. Do you want to face a goalie who's playing out of his mind (something like a 950 save percentage in 11 March starts)?

Grubauer and Kuemper are the two hottest goalies in the conference. They are playing equally well, and there is a 90% chance we're getting one of them.
I am not worried, we are significantly better than either team, and if we play well, we will win the series.
And if we don’t get those two we’re getting Dallas and Bishop who is no slouch (I assume he’ll be back for playoffs) plus Dallas seems to have our number. I’d rather play the Avs than the other two options so I’m happy with that.

Grubauer was also exceptional down the stretch last year heading into the playoffs, and then he lost his job after the first two games.
I don’t set much importance on what teams or players are doing in March and April as it pertains to what will happen when the post season actually begins.

Yotes would be an ideal first round opposition, but the avs aren't bad either. Flames have been able to carve up that d pretty good in each game this year (averaging just under 5 goals for). If the flames can play their game, get ok or better goaltending, and come up at least even on special teams, they should be able to win against either in the first round.
I could just see Dallas mail it in big time if they can manage to get just a single point in their next game to clinch a playoff spot. Then they’d sit back and hope Colorado can pass them. I think Dallas would much rather face the flames than face Winnipeg or Nashville. Simply based on how they seem to have Calgary’s number.

To answer your question, here's how: I'm not voting for a team based on the Flames' chances to beat them. I'm voting based on who would make an entertaining series. For me, that's either Dallas or Colorado. I don't particularly want to watch 4-7 games of Arizona Coyotes hockey. I'll gladly watch 7 games of what Mackinnon did above, or this kind of thing (acknowledging that Stastny doesn't play for them anymore, Rantanen is equally capable of awesome stuff like this):
The Flames should be able to beat any of the teams they might potentially face. If they manage to lose to a wild card team they sure as hell weren't getting through SJS/VGK or the winner of the Central, and don't deserve to try.
