I lose respect for players who miss hockey for an extra bit of $. I know it’s more complex than that, and can be debated ad nauseum, but I just can’t help it.

For #Flames fans, this is an excellent number. Puts Tkachuk market value a shade over $7m.
I'm okay with Tkachuk at $7m.

Scoring Winger

If waiting as long as possible was the plan, what would the difference have been signing this morning as to 5 mins before the deadline? Besides drama.

I guess I was wrong about Dubas ignoring everything Lamiorello taught him... the Cap Circumvention is strong in this one.

Makes me even more impressed with Tre locking up Johnny Hockey for 6@6.75 that's for sure 🙂

Nylander takes home $7.2x6. That seems ok to me; perhaps a touch low. He was worth $7.5m. Dubas cost him $1.8m - if it was me, I'd hold a grudge forever.

Sounds sketchy... like it was planned.

I would not doubt this to be the case for a second.
Seems like a silly little loophole

They could have signed him to a 1 year 15M contract at the beginning of the season, and then signed him to a 5 year 6M per year contract on January 1, 2019 as well, which would have worked out to the same as a 7.5Mx6year contract.

So $6.9M buys two UFA years. If you accept the assumption that UFA years cost $1M more than RFA years, that would be approximately $6.57M X 4 + $7.57M X 2. I wonder if we could get Tkachuk for $6.57M X 4 + $7.75M X 4, for and AAV of $7.07 X 8 (both are wingers, and Nylander was slightly ahead in PPG last year). I know that the two play with different styles and bring different attributes to their teams, but this is what Treliving will now use for a comparable.

One thing the Leafs will have to do first is send down a current roster player, they are currently over the max.

So about $38M on their top4 forwards.... Quite the recipe for success. It's win now mode this year clearly.

Posters said the same thing when Chicago won their first Stanley Cup and then had to retool, before they won their 2nd SC.
Then posters said the same thing when they had to retool before they won their 3rd Stanley Cup.
Sure Toronto will have to make choices, like all successful teams have too. We can only hope that Calgary gets to the position where they have too many good players that they have to choose between them after a Stanley Cup win. And then retool and win.
As long as the core stays young andproductive, retooling the complimentary players and continuing to win is possible.

One. He wasn't on the Leafs roster for 40+ games in 2015-16, so it doesn't count as an accrued season toward UFA status.

I figured they'd get a deal done before it was too late. I'm just glad we don't have to hear about it anynore.
