Nothing done against a child's will is funny. Hazing isn't funny, but it certainly is stupid. So, yes, you are horrible.

I'm not sure if this is the same incident, but having to do it on the ice (because of a groin injury!) makes it sound so much worse:

Still, he said he was subjected to horrific treatment. He said during practice or games the rookies’ street clothes would be soaked in the shower and then put in a freezer so they were frozen solid when it was time to get dressed. He also said younger players had to get naked and into rolling laundry bins filled with unwashed equipment and were then pushed around the arena in what the veteran players called "the Rookie Rocket." He said one rookie fell out of his bin and required stitches afterwards.
Pszenyczny said another time he intended to sit out an optional skate due to a groin injury but veterans told him he still had to participate. Instead of running through drills, Pszenyczny said he was forced to strip naked and do pushups on the ice with his penis being dipped into FlexAll, a menthol-based ointment for sore muscles, every time he went down to the ground.
also, the stories about having to bob for apples in the cooler filled with spit, urine, and pizza (??) are just ridiculous. I imagine you could so easily catch some horrible disease, and when you get treated for it, how the hell do you explain that to medical staff.

Hazing is one of the most atrocious medieval rituals. The difficulty of eliminating it is rooted in "fairness". Those who were hazed want to haze the newbies; it's only fair, right? The only way to attack and eliminate hazing from team sports is immediate and ruthless expulsion of anyone who's guilty of it. Investigate a complaint thoroughly - if true, fire the offenders off the team; no matter how good they are. And ensure they don't get onto another team within a league. That's it. This is the only way for the message to really sink in.
Unfortunately, the league is gutless in this regards. A) most of decision makers in each league have been through hazing themselves in one way or another, so they "understand it"; and B) who would have the guts to cut a next Crosby, Marchand or Pronger?

Actually from my experience the players good enough to make the NHL or a Canadian National team are almost across the board good people who are super dedicated and DONT do this kind of stuff.
It’s the overagers with little professional aspirations who do pretty much all of the hazing and bullying.
You don’t actualky think the Crosby’s, McDavid’s, Mackinnons etc were doing this stuff in junior right? They were way too busy working on their game and that’s why they are so good
What is your experience? What teams did you see the overagers doing it but not the stars? How many stars do you have personal experience with? Just curious, it would be nice to know how big of a sample size your experience reflects.
Based on Carcillo's tweets, it seems like the person he blames the most on the Sarnia team was a NHL prospect, indeed played in the NHL.

Glad I came up when I did. When I played it was just your standard 'screw with the new guy' stuff. Carry equipment, tape sticks, worst seat on the bus, get ditched with a bar bill, that sort of thing. Never got physical and certainly never some of the straight up gross stuff that was being described. Although I'm sure it still existed and continues to exist somewhere to this day
In high school my dumbass watched those Nair hair removal commercials and thought "That looks way easier than shaving", so grabbed a bottle and lathered up my face. I'm not sure what was worse, the intense burning or how my face looked like an infected tomato. I did feel a bit better about myself a few days later when explaining myself to a buddy, and he replied how he tried the same thing, only he tried it down south to look like a porn star. He thought things were going to shrivel up and fall off for a while
How is this surprising to those in the hockey community?
When I was 16 and played rec hockey in division 3 we would talk explicitly about how in the chl they would make rookies cram naked in buses and how they would make rookies watch gay porn, with the loser being the first one to pop a woodie and he was subsquently forced to masturbate in front of the entire team or take objects up the bum.
My point being that
1) I played really really hockey
2) I knew no one in the chl
3) I still knew what was going on
How could a no name, non-conneted 16 year old know what was going on and people within these organization did not? Everyone knew

Ugh this brings back horrible memories for me personally. I moved from Calgary to a small town in West Central Alberta and made their AA team. Being new to the team they had to “haze me in” this consisted of being stripped naked and held down while I was taped to a flag pole outside the arena in the middle of
November at 6pm on a Saturday and left there until a couple of random people in taped me. Oh am I was also covered in spit from having people spitters dumped on my head.

What frightens me with having two daughters is the stuff I'd hear when I was a teenager about how some of these guys treated girls.
