I did feel that Dube wouldn't gain much more being in the minors but as of late, I've changed my tune. Has he been out since the Vancouver hit with a concussion or was there another incident after that? For some reason I feel like he's been back since that hit.
My thought before was that he was getting good minutes on the third line, which was more valuable than being in the A, but if he's going to play under 8 minutes on the fourth line, then I'd agree, send him down to get minutes in all situations. I'd have Czarnik eat his minutes otherwise, bring Lazar up. Sounds like he's earned it.

Here’s Dubes chance. Up 5-0 after one, may as well give the kid a chance now

I'd call up foo/mangiapane and do:
Mangiapane/Czarnik-Jankowski-Czarnik/Foo
I don't really get why Hathaway is still a regular, hes fine in certain games but he loses his effectiveness whens he's a regular I find

This is the right call. Send him down, let him get his confidence and be around guys like Lazar, Magiapane, Klimchuk and give the farm team a boost.
I'd rather see Czarnik getting more time to see what we have with him and a couple of the others (Foo, Kilmchuk, Lazar) given a cup of coffee to see what they bring to the team.

The Flames are in Vegas and Arizona this weekend. I would be surprised if he wasn't sent down at that time. Give him 20 minutes a night and bring up Mangiapane or Lazar.

I thought he was betterthan his linemates tonight. It's hard to send him down when he's better than 3-4 forwards in the team right now.

Dube is going to be alright, but yeah, I think we send him down and give someone else some NHL time.
Dube has been showing great speed and instincts, and he was robbed a couple of times for goals. But his future is probably a top 6 forward and should be getting more minutes and opportunities on a top line. For development, I think the AHL is a good way to go. Plus, there are some guys on the farm that deserve a chance to come up and face harder competition.

You don’t want such a young player to go on such a long streak without production. He really needs some time in the AHL and learn how to score at a professional level. Makes little sense to me why he’s still here right now and weird the way Peters brought it up unless he’s trying to send a message. I don’t know why you wouldn’t tell them the same thing directly.

Not when he's a rookie playing on the 4th line. His ice time has been trending down as the season goes on. It's going to start hurting his development imo.

That's the thing, when you play someone as a 4th liner, you risk developing them in to a 4th liner.

I don't think learning to score at an AHL level does that much frankly. The goalies are sub par, the defence is sub par, and the Flames who get sent back and light it up don't seem to do any better when they return.
Can you name an NHLer who went down and came back up much better? To me, once in the NHL, improvement seems to come by playing NHL hockey against NHL goalies and D. I can see starting in the AHL if you just don't have an NHL game yet and are still growing. But Dube has more NHL game than anyone down there, and 3-4 guys up here.

Haha it defeats the purpose to send down a youngster with good potential because he isn't getting much icetime on the 4th line just to call up another youngster and put him in the same situation.
If they were going to sit Hathaway maybe your proposition would make sense but I think the coach likes Hathaway as a 4th line PKer.
Hathaway has been pretty good at killing penalties.

I liked Dube's game tonight and I think he has more to give. He may not exactly be the type of player you can call up for the 4th line but it's not like he's made any glaring mistakes on D.I also totally understand if management wants to season him in the A, I think he would do very well there in a scoring role and they could use the help. That being said I think he could be very valuable this season if he can figure it out. His speed is a big asset and not something the other prospects currently in the AHL have. That's been the big difference between Dube and Mangiapane for me, Dube can carry the puck with speed into the zone, i've yet to see Mangiapane show anywhere near the the puck skills that Dube has shown. For that reason, I would keep him up a little longer.

Not permanently, just give both of them a few games and see how they look this year.

Ferland and Backkund are two guys that developed in the AHL. I don’t agree with focusing on the idea that once he’s up, he can’t be sent down. If he is better than everyone in Stockton then he should be able to prove it easily down there. The AHL is not an easy league and I’m not sure you can characterize it as sub par.
My conern is a young player who goes on extended streaks of no production. Plus he’s getting killed out there regularly.
As for there being 3 forward playing worse than him, not sure I’d agree. He has no goals and 2 assists.

16:14 with 2:24 on the power play for Dillon Dube last night, probably the most ice time he's ever got.

Can anyone provide me an injury update on Mangiapane?
I would think that even if he is healthy we'll likely see someone like Peluso called up. Czarnik slots back in full time and Peluso plays when called upon (Oilers).

IIRC, those guys developed down there, came up and didn't return. Backs came up midway through the 9-10 season and didn't go back except for a 1 game conditioning stint. Backlund never really found his game in the AHL - he found it up here. Ferland came up and never returned - his offensive game only came about when he was tried out on the top line out of necessity.
I'm talking about guys sent down to "find their game". Poiriet, Shinkaruk, Reinhart, Agostino, Drew Shore, etc. were all guys who were sent down to improve scoring and had great AHL offensive games, so "confidence restored", right? Except it never translated to the NHL. Baerstchi never improved until he was kept up by Vancouver and then only after a couple years. Wotherspoon never found his game.
I'm sure there must be examples of guys who were offensively talented and were demoted to find their game, and it worked. I just can't think of one example.

Draisatl? He had played 37 games in the NHL before being sent to the minors for 32, and 6 in the AHL the next year.
