Chris Cuthbert should be the guy nationally. That we are deprived of his play-by-play in the most important games and instead have Jim Hughson is a pity.
I always associated Cole with the Maple Leafs which prevented me from becoming a big fan. I will admit though he is one of the best ever and called a great game last night. The "Scores!" on the tying goal was brilliant.

I like all of the above. Chris Cuthbert in the Western Conference final '04 was incredible. Bob Cole goes without saying is a legend, but I have no problems with Hughson. Can't stand Romanuk or Randorf though.
Hell, I even enjoy Mark Lee. Where'd he go?

One thing I enjoy about Bob Cole's style is that he doesn't needlessly say a things during the play. If nothing if really happening he just gives the audience a moment. No need to talk every second, sometimes a moment of silence adds all the drama a call needs.
The 2002 Olympic Gold medal game is the best hockey game I've ever seen.
A little off topic, but it annoys the heck out of me when people blow their load talking about Sid and the 2010 Olympics like it was Canada's single greatest achievement.
Did we all collectively forget the magic of 2002 and the absolute domination of Joe Sakic throughout?

Who was on Sid's line again?
Who was on Sakic's line?
What's the common denominator?

I have nothing but respect for legends of the game, regardless of whether they were one of my favourites. That said, Bob Cole is a legend but I think he held on too long.
Other posters touched on many of the faults which would come naturally to any of us at his age. The one that drove me nuts is when he just says players names with no description of what is happening. Tkachuk...pause... Bennett ... pause.... Tkachuk.....pause... Monahan ... pause.... SCORES. I know the argument would be that we are watching on tv but then he would throw in a long winded version of something as if he was talking to a child "Monahan shoots and he was looking to go top corner but the goalie said I am not going to let you score this time"
Very petty stuff I know and it was fine when he was a bit younger as he would say players names with excitement but that excitement is long gone.
