Most painful was that game 7 against the Oilers, where they were up 3-0.
Everything about that sucked.
Vernon giving up a softy to open the door at precisely the wrong time.
And then an anti-climatic OT winner by Tikanen that ended it so suddenly
The Bure overtime winner was also painful given the chance Bob Reichel had earlier. But nothing stings more than that Game 7 Oiler loss
Agreed on the Oilers game 7, especially after coming off a high of Game 6 & the infamous Theo Fleury goal & celebration. Obviously lots to pick from in the last decade plus such as the game 7 vs the Ducks in 2006. As a kid I remember being like 11 years old & crying when the Flames were on the verge of winning the Campbell Conference championship & advance to the finals for the first time and they were up 3 games to 2 vs St Louis & blew a huge lead and the Blues won in overtime on a goal by Doug Wickenheiser. The Flames won game 7 ofcourse but still that was tough. Also that same season they were up 2-0 in game 2 and had won game 1 already only to lose in overtime. Ended quick on a goal by Brian Skrudland like 10 seconds in. Probably the turning point in the series.
This was probably the worst loss for this team with a roster as strong (supposedly) as they have. They lost by bigger scores, but those Flames teams were less talented and generally had low expectations.
Being a Flames fan since they arrived from Atlanta, has mostly been a painful experience.
Not last night, that's for sure. That was just a generic stinker.
The Boston game a few years ago hurt. JBow minus 50 or something in one game.
And the derpy faces in the post game interview.
Most painful was the Cup loss to stupid Tampa. That game was so flat because they knew it had been stolen away, and their style of play meant they had been powered by fumes and prayers for at least a round.
(NHL should just stick some tech in the damn puck)

This was the worst one because it really put a cap on what was the most disappointing season in Flames history.
That 91-92 team was supposed to be a Cup contender. Instead, what did they do? They traded Doug Gilmour for magic beans and they proceeded to just fold up the tent on the season.
By the time they lost this game, that was pretty much all she wrote on the season in my opinion.
I'm old. Attended the first game. I have seen so many painful losses.
I guess the playoff ones hurt the most. The Oilers ones in OT, the Bure Vancouver one, 2004 not winning it all, etc.
However I will pick an odd one. I was in high school and I bet an Oiler fan Calgary would win. $20. A big sum back in the mid 80's. Was is that is 2018 dollars? $6000 or something.
Anyway, why would I bet such a princely sum? No Gretzky. No Kurri. No Messier.
At least that was understandable with what they went through that year. IMO game 7 vs Anaheim in 2006 is the worst game I've ever seen the Flames play, just absolutely no heart. That game really set the stage for the year after year of disappointment from this franchise since
I believe Rhett has spoken about this series on the morning show.
Mentioned something to the effect of they lost the series when Daryl burst in the room pissed off after the game 1 OT winner and chewed out the team because they blew a 3rd period lead. Said the room deflated.

He says they lost because the coach chewed them out when they didn’t think it was deserved? Hard to believe pro athletes couldnt deal with that. And they actually played fine until game 7.

The worst regular season game is unquestionably the 4-3 loss to Vancouver on March 12 2011. Playoff hunt, playing against eventual Presidents trophy winning division rival, Saturday night at home. We were in 8th but barely and never recovered after this loss. Blew a 2-0 1st period lead. Goddamn I was mad leaving the dome. I think I would’ve yelled at Brent Sutter if I’d seen him after the game. We went into a shell up 2-0 and it was a painful death in the final 55 minutes. I still think we win that game and we make the playoffs.
I was working and had to listen to Game 7 2006 against the Ducks on the radio so I’ve never actually seen the game. I think I didn’t even watch the highlights. They were awful enough just listening on the radio.

One of my first flames memories was a game against the bruins in the 99-00 season, back when grant fuhr was in net. We were down 5-0 due to horrible goaltending (some things never change) and I vividly remember the puck getting whiffed down the ice towards fuhr, who made the “save” and the dome then erupted into sarcastic applause lol
Game 7 vs Anaheim
Game 4 vs TBL in 04
9-0 vs Boston
Last night.
I'm tempted to add Game 6 vs the Lightning. But it was a great game leading right up to the no goal call. And even then Nieminen was a whisker away from scoring the Cup winning goal in overtime. And then Chris Simon gets blatantly tripped while skating the puck out and the Lightning keep it in and immediately score.
Now I'm mad all over again.

Now I’m curious — for an Oilers fan, what’s the worst game in their history? Nucks fans same question, worst game in their collective memory? Also curious about Montreal, Toronto and Winnipeg.
That 2006 game 7 was probably the most disappointing where I felt like the team deserved the blame. 2004 game 7 was worse overall, but I had no sense of blame for the team, whereas in 2006 you could feel that it was a collapse of heart and that the team just wasn't deserving of being cheered for.

That highsticked goal still pisses me off so much.
It was the inspiration for my avatar which I still haven't figured out what to change it to. Every time I think about it I feel as disgusted as I did when it happened. I'm confident had it been the other way around the ref would have called it off right away.
