Personally hoping they send mangiapane down tomorrow and keep both Andersson and valimaki up with the main squad. Andersson has played great hockey and would be a real slap in the face if he has to go down because of stone

Just reading things but...no. Nashville traded him, most Edmonton fans are extremely disappointed in him, etc. I also question his commitment; within first week or something with the Oilers he missed a bus or was late for some meetings or something of the sort?

Sometimes a trade is easier to complete after a player has gone through waivers, as he can be assigned directly without risk of losing the player you just acquired.

I just don't pine on these types of issues ... not saying you are in any way.
Formenton looks like he's Lazar two years ago, may or may not progress.
Dube looks good compared to Russell and his 4x4 contract (plus Polock has taken a step).
Parsons is money in the bank compared to Hudler.
Calgary got a 2nd for Giguere
Calgary paid a 2nd for Kiprusoff.
The wheel goes round and round.

Of course the Flames can still waive players tomorrow before the roster deadline.

We may not be seeing any more Ricardo old roster posts.

I'm glad the Flames have seemingly learned from the mistakes of the past and sent down Peluso. Was not expecting that. Would be nice if the same could be done with Prout as designated goons have no place in today's NHL, but as a #7D, whatever.
Glad to see Lazar waived as well. Nice guy who simply adds nothing else.

He and Bennett should have both worked their way into the NHL. Both were rushed imo.

Either way if we can get some of the other guys waiver exempt it will be good to have the depth and let guys rotate as needed

Lazar has the smarts and the speed ... he doesn't seem to be able to process the game at the speed required to contribute offensively. That usually suggests he's pretty much done, but there is a chance that at 85% AHL speed (guess on %) that he may find some of that game back and be a factor down the road.

Or how about not knowing about Habs management were watching YouTube videos and happening to stumble on Byron highlights by chance? Lack of foresight by Treliving imo

Bennett proved he was more than ready with an 18 goal rookie season at age 19

Exciting in theory, but waivers isn't a guaranteed trip to the AHL. I'm hopeful the Flames are leaning in the right direction, but these moves could be all about slipping guys through the waiver wire while keeping all options open.

I was about to post the same thing. Waiving Lazar/Kulak now means they probably pass through unclaimed due to the number of players on the wire and other teams trying to get compliant. That gives Treliving more flexibility if he wants to make a trade / claim Monday or Tuesday. it also gives other clubs the ability to send those guys to the AHL without the risk of them getting claimed.
The Flames could send them down, keep them up, or trade them. This just buys him flexibility.

I would have absolutely no problem whatsoever with Peluso as the 14th forward.

Kulak must be happy he got that one-way deal. He was outplayed by a few D so he may not get another crack at the NHL level for a bit. At least he'll earn a good pay cheque without affecting our cap.

Exactly. It goes both ways. Sometimes it's good to trade a player for a 2nd, and sometimes it's good to trade a 2nd for a player.
Having a one-dimensional, inflexible view one way or the other is how you get into trouble.

I would rather they both stay up. There will be a forward and a defenseman in the press box most nights, and I would much prefer those players are not one of Valimaki and Anderson, and one of Mangiapane and Dube. One of the young forwards and defensemen needs to play in the AHL.

Question: is Mangiapane still waiver-exempt?
