They do a lot for Buffalos needs though. really good depth and take some responsibility away from Eichel who they can now just let run.

They'll probably try and flip Berglund and Sobotka. Thompson is a great prospect and the picks are big

This would be like the flames giving Valimaki, 1st, 2nd, Frolik/Ryan, Brouwer

Maybe I'm crazy but that doesn't seem like too much for ROR.

That’s a fantastic trade by Buffalo, fills out their bottom 6 and continues to compile high end futures. Great move.

Tage Thompson. Like the player especially for his huge powerplay upside but between Eichel, Nylander, Reinhart, Okposo... bad fit in Buffalo. Might be able to buy low on him in a few years.

I guess we're both crazy. That's what I think too.

Berglund is easily expendable with Schenn, Bozak and now ROR ahead of him. Really a salary dump since he can be incredibly frustrating with the tools but not the performance. Sobotka is a very good third liner, but replaceable. The key is Thompson and the 1st

Love this deal for the Blues!

I think you nailed it with this equivalence...and I agree with you.

Sabres likely would have taken this package over St. Louis's, but only because of Bennett's draft position and potential.

You know it's a big trade when you can barely fit it all in the thread title

Yep.

Flames equivalent here may have been:

2019 1st
2021 2nd
Michael Frolik
Troy Brouwer
Andrew Mangiapane

I think I would have given up the 19 1st, 21 2nd, Andersson, Bennett and Frolik as long as Brouwer would have been part of the deal and the sabres retained a bit. I think this was an over payment but not by that much.

STL is off their rocker agreeing to that king sized ransom for ROR.
A first
second
prospect
Berglund
Sobotka.
BUF maximized this trade and wins it hands down. If this was a fight it's a KO in the first round.

Blues got a lot better in the central division today. Not sure it's enough to supplant WPG or NSH, but they'll make noise.

too rich for me...thompson is considered one their top prospects...but the price was lower because STL is on the hook for ROR's 7.5 roster bonus....

if Buffalo had to swallow that, i guarantee that would have added a high pick/prospect

Totally agree on Berglund. I'd bet Army is thrilled to be rid of the 4 years remaining on that deal

Thompson doesn't strike me as a significantly better prospect from a numbers game, but if he is - then you perhaps put in a better prospect to help offset the inclusion of Brouwer as well (Andersson?)
