This has nothing to do with firing him or not, this is just about what BT said and a desire from some apparently for him to come out with 2 games remaining in the season and undermine the head coach.
I see no point to that except to satisfy the vengeful masses.

I think if we're reading between the lines, GG is done. He said the Flames need to be more emotional and regardless of your opinion of GG's coaching abilities, I think everyone can agree that Gulutzan is very much unemotional.

Gulutzan wouldn’t be where is he today if he wasn’t a good coach. I think it’s fair to say that about him. But in the NHL, good isn’t good enough for a team that wants to succeed in the playoffs.

Is he a great NHL coach? Not yet, may not even ever be. Is he the right coach at the right time? I’d definitely say no.

I’ve got no problem with Treliving calling the team and the coach good. Based on that interview, he knows good isn’t enough.

Yeah, and taking some of the hyperbole out of it, someone has to coach the run-in to the end of the season that means nothing. Might as well be the guy getting paid to do it.

Theres no benefit to firing him early.

If they'd replaced him at Christmas that would be one thing, but at this point its all over except for the crying so may as well let him finish what he started.

The team isn't going to be better in the last 2 games of the season. So what are you actually looking for? Why do you care what BT says with 2 games remaining? If it isn't about wanting to see GG tarred and feathered on his way out - what is it about?

I can see both sides to this argument. I disagree with Treliving's approach, I would certainly have taken Gulutzan out back just to send a message to the remainder of the organization. On the other hand, that's almost entirely the opposite approach (process, system analysis, overthinking in general) that Treliving has used for his entire tenure so far so we shouldn't expect it to change overnight.

I am of the opinion that he should also be fired if Glenn isn't gone by monday April 9th. That's enough time to preform a sober second thought analysis and come to the more than obvious conclusion that we have a terrible coaching staff.

I'm glad you don't run the Flames or you'd be rolling dice to make decisions. Because luck.

The argument is that there hasn't been a decision yet but really there is no reason to do the two things you wanted him to do right now:

A) Fire GG immediately with two games left

B) Refrain from saying anything even remotely positive about the coach

Just because he is failed as coach doesn't mean you don't give him the common courtesy of not slagging him in the media or saying a positive thing about him (it was very minor & was still qualified with a "but"). Hell pretty much every coach firing has that "kiss of death" right before it happens.

My guess is GG is gone by Friday the 13th. They will do garbage bag day and player interviews on Monday. Coaching Staff interviews on Tuesday. Then BB and Trelving will probably fire him by Friday.

It is going to be an exciting off season but some fans better be prepared for some trades. I can see it playing out Flames grab the right head coach this time before the draft. But at the draft they ship out key pieces for other key pieces to shake up the locker room.

If I was Treliving I would have fired Gulutzan months ago. I would not be saying anything to the media about him being a good coach, because I don't believe it and I know most fans don't either. Once he is fired you thank him for his contributions and service and wish him well. Done.

I've been saying this for the last two years. A 1st and 2 second rounders for a defensive d-man ( oh and fire the damn coaching staff, pathetic )

Am I truly seeing people rake brad treliving over the coals for displaying some basic human decency and not canning + tar and feathering in public his head coach who has 2 games left in his nhl career to "make the team better"

It's pretty wild to me how vitriolic this place is compared to when they were an actually horrible team with no end in sight (post lockout years)

That's fair but Treliving also can't go back in time and fire him in December.

Your first post didn't really state that at all. It made it seem like you wanted him fired right now.

In terms of saying something nice about him that is just the "Kiss of Death" / Common Courtesy that always seems to happen in the hockey world.

These guys work closely together, he choose to hire him, and they communicate on a daily basis. I wouldn't be surprised if Tre believes he is a good coach, that also doesn't mean he thinks it's the right coach or that he's not getting fired.

Honestly it just felt like there were a lot of over-reactions to what was a pretty cookie-cutter response to a "fire the coach" question at this point of the season.

If we are at the draft and Treliving is still making those statements and GG still has a job then we should all be worried but at this point it's pretty business as usual to make those comments.

How a franchise treats players/coaches impacts whether other people want to be part of the organization. Running an outgoing coach into the ground isn't a good way to kick off the search for a new coach.

No one is asking for Gulutzan to be publicly humiliated and driven out of town tied to a car bumper.
