Yup. Unless you are a top draft pick, what rookie, even offensive minded ones, start in a top four role in their first few games? Gaudreau was started in a 3rd line role IIRC. Babcock has played Marner in a third/fourth line role this year.

No. I recall in interviews with Foo when he signed that the Flames were open with him about likely starting the season in the AHL and working his way up the lineup.

No, he knew that he'd start in Stockton. There were some speculation that other teams offered him a guaranteed NHL spot, which I'm skeptical of. No team does that.
He did get a personal phone call from Gaudreau though when he was being wooed. As a projected top 6 RW, I'm sure the opportunity was on his mind.

Even on defence, Kulak and Rasmus, one of the top AHL defenders, is on a "try out" the rest of the year and hardly gets any top unit pp opportunities or a chance to play heavy ES minutes. Playing out the stretch these players should be seeing huge usage as opposed to feeding the veterans who got this team into this mess more ice time.

Best 16 ever was Guy Chouinard (Hull wore it but can't really count him as a great Flame). Hon mention to Ern, Stillman and Berube.
