Shore played a few games I think. He was in the line up against the Rangers for sure.

... that's 30% of his appearance. Take away the worst 30% of every goaltenders appearances and all of their stats are significantly affected.

I'm not counting those backup performances. Smith had already lost those games IMO. Of his starts, all but 3 were quality IMO. Even the Boston loss, though lopsided, wasn't really on him.
I'd like the future to be Gillies because he's such a specimin. But I think Rittich has been better.

Okey sure... if you don't count all the times David Rittich wasn't a great goalie then he's a great goalie. All I'm saying is that his performance on the whole hasn't been any better then Gillies. On a rate basis they've both let in the same number of goals.

By my watching Gillies will be the better in the long run. If you can fix his occasional gaffes he checks a lot of boxes. However those gaffes could lodge him firmly in the Jake Allen category of not quite a number 1. Rittich... Rittich looks great sometimes, and has a great personality. Gillies has mental lapses during a game he plays well whereas rittich will play brutally for an entire game at a time.

What I'm not counting is the times he came in when the team was already terrible and it was a shooting gallery - the Edmonton and TB games. Just like I don't count the Florida or Detroit games against Gillies that much. I'm looking at their starts. In Rittich's 14 starts I think he's played badly in 4. Not great, but a 75% average, which is better than Gillies' 66% good starts (again, IMO) in which I include the AZ game where I thought he wasn't very comfortable off the hop.

Just to add on the goalie discussion. I think Rittich did well as a backup for Smith, really reliable when called upon except his play in relieve, but I think this is not when u expect your backup to win you a game when he comes in in the 3rd and the game is pretty much set and done. His bad starts happened after Smith injury, so from this small sample size you can say he cannot be a starter atm, but can serve us in the backup role well.
Gillies on the other hand is thought to be the future starter. He displayed some potential, but all in all it's safe to say he is not ready for the NHL yet. What people around here seem to forget is that both of those guys played a full season last time in the AHL and Rittich took a lot of ice time from Gillies. This was not expected. I would like to see going into next year with Smith / Rittich and Gillies as a starter in Stockton.

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames Mike Smith just told us that today was another good day and he’ll see how he feels tomorrow...won’t say if he is or isn’t playing vs. #Islanders tomorrow. My guess - he’s in. #NYIvsCGY
Roger Millions @RogMillions
Mike Smith didn’t say he was ready outright, but when NHL goaltenders bring up “roster moves” as part of the criteria. It removes part of the mystery. #Flames

Could be a huge shot of adrenaline.
Too bad 'deadline acquisition' Versteeg still isn't ready

I think even having Smith join the team on the road has been a boost. He's a leader and a competitor. I'm sure he's pushing the team behind the scenes as much as anyone.
If they can just stay close and get him back - the team should get a big boost and potentially go on a run.

I’d be very tempted to keep the lineup the same tomorrow as the last two, actually.
All the lines were rolling and the defensive structure was adapted to help Rittich out a lot more. Keep all those lines in tact and give Smith another couple days.
I’d wait to play him against SJ so he’s that much closer to 100%, and the Oilers on paper should be a cake walk, but if he’s close enough, have him start vs the Oilers because that’s about as must win as there is for many reasons.
Adrenalin shot could come Friday in form of Versteeg.

Does anyone have a pulse on how Versteeg is doing down in Stockton?
