We know by now that the Oilers broadcast crew are completely unprofessional, from Principe's stupid unfunny stunts. To his work with opposition players where you can see them wanting to slap the goop out of his hair. To their excitement at the Oilers scoring to the mournful tones when other teams scoring.
but its Remanda's pouting and crying and long periods of silence on the air when the Oilers don't get the call that absolutely makes me laugh.
I remember talking to Peter Mahr once a long time ago, and I was a stupid snot nosed kind, and I asked him why he bothered getting wound up when the flames opponents scored.
He basically said that his job was to not only describe the game, but also let everyone know that there was another good team on the ice. That way it made the game more exciting for the fans listening.
Basically the Oilers crew kills each and every game they broadcast.
You would think that there was only one team on the ice, and because they call the game the way they do, when the Oilers lose it makes it sound like either the Oilers beat themselves or they lost to a boring inferior team.
Its to the point that they're just embarrassing themselves.
I still remember a few years back how almost insulting it was when Laroque scored and the play by play screamed Rumble Young Man Rumbl, which was a Muhammed Ali quote before he fought Sonny Liston in the 60's. It was to me really kind of inappropriate and stupid to equate a goon like Laroque to Ali.
As far as the hit on Benning. It was pretty border line as to a penalty call. I still can't see a vicious cross check or blatant force used.
Maybe Benning was trying to bail out to avoid a hit.
But it doesn't prove that there's some stupid league conspiracy against the Oilers.
