It's time to switch things up a bit IMO. We need the 1st line to be more consistent, and while I love Ferland, he is proving that he is not consistent enough to be on that line, combine that with the fact that Monahan is inconsistent, and our top line becomes a black hole at times. We don't have enough scoring depth for our top line to not be scoring consistently.
I also think that we need more jam from our 4th line, they don't need to be scoring, but they do need to be tough to play against.
I would try this:
Gaudreau ~ Monahan ~ Tkachuk
Bennett ~ Backlund ~ Frolik
Mangiapane ~ Jankowski ~ Hathaway|Brouwer
Ferland ~ Lazar ~ Brouwer|Hathaway
Mangiapane and Janko already have some chemistry, and Hathaway or Brouwer can be swapped between 3rd and 4th line depending on what is working.
The idea of Ferland ~ Lazar ~ Hathaway as our 4th line has nice sound to it, and could be a really tough line for other teams to play against. Shoot Stajan into the moon (Sorry Staj, but it's time).
I don't really look at it as demoting Ferland, but more of a way to find a balanced line up. We all know how much our coach loves to play the 4th line, so why not have a 4th line that can be good in that role.
And FFS just put Dougie on the top PP unit. Arguably our best offensive Dman, and a right handed shot...seems like such a no brainer.

And a Ferland hater , posing as a guy who loves Ferland of course, exposes himself by suggesting Ferland would look great on the fourth line.... Lol

I guess you disagree?
Definitely not a Ferland hater, just a suggestion to try and give the team more depth and balance.
You can disagree with my opinion, but you can't argue the fact that Ferland is inconsistent. It's something that he has struggled with his whole career, and IMO is what is holding him back from being an upper Echelon player in this league

He ranks #10 in goals and #22 in points scored by RWingers in the entire League.
Ferland seems fine to me.

If someone told me the Flames would have had 1 regulation loss in all of January, I would have taken it in a heartbeat.
If the 7-1-4 record was spread out differently and not been in the streaks that we have now, people would be a lot more optimistic these days. 18 out of 24 points, could be a lot worse.
GO FLAMES GO.

Agreed. He is on pace for about 30 goals and great value for his contract. Yes he is a little streaky but this is what a 30 goal scorer looks like. If the Flames need Ferland to be more than what he is currently in order to be successful, we’re in trouble.

Would Tkachuk produce more offence than Ferland if he played with Johnny and Mony?
That's the real question IMO and given the 5 game losing skid, I would be inclined to change things up if I were the coach.

He would, but on the flip side I don't think it would be of any help because as Tkachuk's replacement Ferland would not produce as much offence as Tkachuk does on the second line. In the end I expect that both players' scoring numbers would look about the same.
But I see the potential value in a shakeup for a game or two. I just don't see it's potential over a full season. The top line will yet again go on another tear or two before the year is out.

I don't mind this. I've thought for a while that Stajan could be more effective as a winger. Plus Backlund isn't great on draws, and also gets waived a lot and Stajan could take some if necessary.
I'd consider putting Tkachuk up to the first line though. Bennett is gritty but Tkachuk is next level, plus has more in tight finish. Have either Bennett or Tkachuk ever played RW?

I have no comment on lineup proposals, but what is with this? Can someone explain to me why Backlund is getting tossed from the face-off circle so often? It seems really excessive.

Some of the time it's Tkachuk jumping the gun. The rest, I don't know. Backlund isn't very good on draws so maybe he's just trying too hard to get an edge. But I don't know exactly what he's doing.
Or it's leftover Wideman effect

I'm gonna PVR this one and watch on fast foward. If it starts going sidewise I can just skip right through. This is my first step in actually not watching a game. That Vegas took a toll on me, couldn't get to sleep that night. That ain't good for nobody.
