The demise of the California teams is an annual prediction here on CP - yet it never seems to happen.

Keep in mind the Ducks have played a lot of this season with major injuries - the Sharks remain ahead of the Flames despite our recent fortunes - and LA is in the midst of a dreadful tailspin yet are still within 2 points of a playoff spot.

I know you disagree that the Central teams will take the 2 WC spots - but that is how I see it - which means Calgary has to beat 2 of the 3 California teams to make the playoffs. Its gonna be a close one.

Do you believe that the Sharks are as good as their record?

I don’t buy it. They are like most NHL teams that can look great in one game or another, but I have already seen tonnes of games this season in which they are easily the second best team.

The Wild are in the same boat as the Flames, Ducks, Kings,

Blues, Avs, Stars, are right there too...I wouldn't just be handing the WC spots to central teams. Flames are in the drivers seat for a divisional spot though

I am warming to the idea that two Central teams could land in both WC slots. But I see no problem with the Flames overtaking two California teams to make the playoffs. None of them are scary anymore.

yeah my focus is those divisional spots. not counting on the WC this year. And in any case I think its best to avoid Nashville and Vegas in round one (assuming those are your division winners)

If that was your assessment of tonight's game I have a hard time taking you at your word on this one. Not saying they are the greatest team in the league but they certainly look like a playoff team right now. Could change next week who knows.

always better to aim higher...they are in a decent spot after a fairly average first half. They should still be aiming for 100 points IMO

Get close to that and we won't be worrying about the OOT

lets hope so. Seems very likely one of those 3 teams is our round one opponent.

I'm not too surprised the Sharks are playing well. They have a great defence, a few good forwards, and above average goaltending. They are not a cup contender and may drop off next season but I fully expect them to be in the playoffs this year. That said I think they would be a great first round match up for the Flames.

Go Rangers! The Kings are in a:

Spoiler!

The Flames are not in the driver’s seat. Far from it. They are in a dog
fight.

Anyone notice the Kings have tied the game and are all over the Rangers now? Can we please stop talking about how terrible these teams are
