Agree to disagree...
If Tre called and said Gio for Kane, Tre gets laughed at.... yes, please give us your 34 year old d man who will be retiring once we turn things around.
If we look at the situation from a middle ground, Buffalo has all the leverage so we only make the trade if we believe it helps not just make playoffs but win a cup. Tre has made trades as of late as if he does see this as the window to go all in.
Gio is a unreal D man but I don't believe his level of play over the next 3 years will be any better than a Hamilton, Brodie, Hamonic over the next 3 years. I also don't believe that losing 1 of our top 4 d men hurts the team at all if it means a instant impact forward who is still young coming back the other way.

You don't see how the league (and NHLPA) is annoyed they had to suspend a guy 10 games without pay who had left the ice by 2 feet and got antagonized by a player from the ice with a poke?
Imagine the scenario was reversed and Kadri was poking a Flames leaving the ice.
There is ZERO hockey reason to ever poke a player who is off the ice OR from the bench. This isn't rocket science...

Disagree. Buffalo takes that trade is a heartbeat, laughs, and trades Gio immediately for way more then Kane will get them.

Something has to be said for the fact the guy didn't even know he was poked. Tkachuks stick is not what brought the player back to the ice. The video clearly shows that the tap isn't felt but some comment from the flames bench stirs the pot and brings him back to the ice.

I thought the Leaf player was the one who said he didn't feel it??
Either way, he taps him and then says something to him. I never saw him say he didn't feel it, but you CAN NOT allow players from the ice or bench to do that!
Just like you shouldn't be allowed to spray players from the bench with water either! But for some reason that's allowed!

I had teams mixed up... I was referring to the previous suspension tap on the skate which the NHL claimed antagonized the other player back to the ice which was BS because it was a comment from the bench.
The Toronto one was worthy of a suspension IMO but the one before that was worthy of nothing more than 2 minutes.

Gio for Kane? Good God.
Giordano is the heart and soul of the team. Kane has been universally hated by his team mates. In multiple cities.
If you want to set a new record for how quickly you can completely obliterate a room, this would be a good way to go about it.

I didn't have a single negative thing to say about Gio as a captain, player, talent, leadership, etc. Gio has been the heart and soul and most likely would be until his contract expires.
Kane has 1 more goal on the year than Johny and is only 3 pts behind Monahan. Yes he has had major off ice issues as seen with multiple young stars who have come into the league. I don't think it is luck that these players mature out of that phase.
Are the flames better for the next 5 years with Kane or Gio given the current makeup of the team?
I could be out to lunch but I just don't see how Gio is fetching "way" more than Kane would fetch right now.
All that aside, would Ferland, Kane, Tkachuk (if one of them could play C) not be the peskiest/toughest line up in the league?

I wouldn't do Gio for Kane but Brodie or Hamilton for Kane on a reasonable extension. Or Brodie+Brouwer for Kane and if he signs an extension, the Flames add a pick/prospect...that's probably a pipe dream though.

Kane is a free agent this year. Highly unlikely he'll sign anywhere before this summer so you are giving up Gio for Kane for this year only. And your team is worse for it.
Everything we've seen Hamilton and Brodie shows they are world builders playing with Gio and meh top 4 guys without him. So you're basically removing the real strength of this team - the best (or at least top 3-5) first defense pair so you get a guy who has basically never played on a competitive team in his NHL career.

I have a feeling the Flames are looking at Okposo. Thats a contract their new management probably wants to get rid of and he's still a good player probably needing a fresh start.
Not sure what the cost would be and he does have a NMC.

You guys know Buffalo has Evander Kane and not Patrick Kane right?
These proposed trades are preposterous

I've thought about this and I can't draw a great parallel between any past agitators and Tkachuk.

You'd be making the Flames significantly younger though.

A team with a current NHL core including Gaudreau (24), Monahan (23), Tkachuk (20),Hamilton (24) and others does not value getting younger.

What was Okposo's health scare earlier on?
