I hope the Flames aren’t planning on cutting him loose. Obviously he has been battling some nagging issue, likely a groin. Obviously missing training camp hurt him for starters. Both times Gully bag skated the team, it was aggravated and he missed some games.

I thought that earlier this season he was creating a few good opportunities a game, where he set guys up who could not finish. You saw him alluding to that in one of the Czech articles - that if they converted on some of these plays, then there would be less questions.

I would like to see him at 100 percent, and hope that is the direction this is going, rather than throwing in the towel.
I hope i'm wrong but my gut tells me that Jagr is going to retire tomorrow. The persistant groin injury has slowed him down and i'm guessing that he thinks it's best for the team that he hangs up the blades. He probably has seen how all the callups on the farm have preformed and maybe thinks he doesn't have a place on the team where he feels he can contribute.

Thanks Jagr for the effort. It was great to see you in Flames colours...Hope you stick around to help mentor the boys.

Playing with Brouwer and Stajan isn’t why he signed on with us. Pretty clear there isn’t a spot for him in our top nine. So not a good fit for either party.

Hate to say it. Wish it were otherwise. At no point has he looked like an NHL skater this season, and the rest of his abilities can’t compensate in the 2017-18 NHL.

Aw, I hope it's not true. I hope they're putting him on IR, but that he tries to keep playing.

No. They were the only omes who actually offered a contract. Thats why he signed here.

Great novelty signing but no one seriously thought he would be a fit or difference maker with his play did they? Thats just delusional. No trainimg camp and had to sit oit for a while before he got into a game. I'm sure his experience comes in handy for teaching but it was a novelty signing all the same.

It was a signing with adding some depth in mind. If he's healthy and playing well he is the exact type of player you would want to add at the trade deadline. We have no picks this year to give up so it was wise to add a veteran who can contribute (when healthy) for nothing more than a roster spot.

I hope he doesn't retire but it looks like he won't be beating Howe's record either way it turns out which is unfortunate. Would have been nice for him to do it in Flames silks.

So, people on here stating Jagr hasn't looked like an NHLer this season. In my mind that is flat out wrong. At times before his first injury absence he looked very good playing in the top nine. At that point the signing looked awesome as he was playing at the same level as he was in Florida, playing a very strong game and impossible to strip of the puck. There were a few games where his line cycled the puck in the offensive zone like it's nobody's business which is vintage Jagr. He got his season derailed by a nagging injury. That's just tough luck, because I think he could have made a difference playing the way he was. No matter how this ends it has been great having Jagr in Flames colors.

It's not likely but if he does indeed retires I hope it's of the LTIR verity and he stays around the young guys for mentoring and even some coaching.

In my view, the whole Jagr experiment should end...

Age and injuries have most definitely caught up to him

I would rather see a rookie in the lineup, versus Jagr.

He obviously has a serious groin injury, does it require surgery....

He simply can't keep up, especially if the injury is a groin injury, he's never been a fast skater, but I'm always surprised at how much effort he has to expend to get up the ice.

We can talk about moving him to the top line, but he simply can't keep up to the top line, and teams are having a fairly easy time covering him because he's just not agile and he's the slowest guy on the ice.

I would assume that the Flames will make a deal with him and he'll retire and go play in the Olympics and then go home.

It was a bold experiment to bring him here, I love that he's finishing up as a Flame, but its time for him to go with his head held high.

Buyers remorse? Should we have signed Iggy instead?

Hopefully they're just shutting him down to rehab for the next couple weeks.

Worry about getting him back in the line up after the all star break.

Seeing as how 30 other teams also didnt sign Iggy is a strong indication to the contrary.

Honestly, Jagr for $1M? We really couldnt miss.

I think he’s done. Team giving him the option of retiring or them shutting him down

He has been a non-factor or liability in the defensive zone. Struggles to keep up with the back-check.

He is +6, which until recently was the best on the team. I think he has been fine defensively.

Sitting at the halfway mark his 1M plus the first bonus he hit would probably still come in under 1M in terms of cap hit for the season. That money in it self was worth it for the exposure with all the young guys. Hell, he more than likely brought more in from jersey sales than the Flames actually paid him.

Jagr was huge for getting Bennet and Janko going, he actually looked great at times. Very surprised at some of the comments on here. Count me as one of the guys hoping he's just being shut down for a few weeks/month and is still planning to return. Don't want to look too far ahead but if we do get into the playoffs, then throwing #68 out there would be huge for an inevitable grind it out series where being tough along the boards will go a long way to winning a series.

Friedman on the radio has his doubts about Jagr retiring, believed that the Flames will shut him down for a few games

I think the org has too much respect for Jagr and for ownership, his jersey sales have more than paid for his contract. The mentorship is priceless as well. Unfortunately this groin injury has been persistent and maybe it's a bit of the climate and altitude as well making his recovery a little more difficult.
