Wasn’t there a theory that Oilers were the beneficiary of an unusual number of back to backs last year? Seems like we are getting a lot this year so far.
Not a theory, they got the softest schedule in the league last year with the highest number of games against tired teams in the league.
We slaughtered the Penguins when they were in town last year, granted, the Zoo beat us to that particular punch, but I digress, and we did it with abysmal goaltending.
Lets bank 2 points.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Kulak is a guy who got no credit from me during the offseason and preseason, but he has been head and shoulders better than Bartkowski to this point - Kulak should absolutely be above Bart on the depth chart at this point.

Big thing to watch for me these days is the slow transformation of two weaknesses into first two neutrals and then maybe two strengths.
Jankowski/Bennett ... more youth, more upside, more chance to see some gains with games played and hopefully provide a bit of offence from the third line making the Flames a tougher team to scheme against.
Kulak/Stone ... from a pairing you hope to feast on to hopefully one that can roll out a neutral to marginal loss game letting the rest of the roster take advantage.
These two holes on the Flames have taken steps in closing, interesting to watch the same tonight against a team littered with dangerous players.
Another Unremarkable thing.. these GDT's OP's with no real effort.
I used to enjoy some of the writeups and news updates of the GDT's.
Now people are rushing to be the OP with zero content.
Agreed, and to answer to Textcritics suggestion, this thread was made at 7:40 am so even if someone wanted to make one it would likely be too late.
I don't get the point of making a GDT with zero effort and not even posting where the game will be televised or the line combinations.
At the very least it should contain what channel it is on and probable line combinations. We have people who put great effort in the GDT don't know why we need one lazily done.
And Pitts at 14 GP. Nothing really remarkable here.

But hey that's just my opinion.
Okay, I can understand your frustrations somewhat, but remember, nobody is getting paid for this and 'Thanks' has a limited value.
They started the GDT because nobody else did, there used to be some awesome GDT starters around here, but I also know people who got infractions over the same.
And to be perfectly fair, its a lot of work.
So let them start the thread, start the discussion, because what happens? The people that put in the effort either get a break or they come in later with their effort and analysis and get their just rewards anyways.
PuppetGuy used to do it for a bit, but occasionally he cant, he still comes in with his ridiculously awesome photoshops, just a bit later.
I could name HalifaxDrunk who used to do them at a quality level beyond words for years, but its a lot of work.
Its okay to take a break from time to time.

Worth remembering though that as a young player Kulak is likely to struggle with consistency, and Bartkowski has had some pretty good games this season.
I expect to see more of Kulak than Bartkowski, but I don't expect it to be all Kulak all the time.

Agreed. But I am pretty pleased to see that Brett Kulak finally looks like a bonafide NHL defenseman. Based on his first few games I don't foresee him playing in the AHL this year, which is terrific news for the Flames.

Keys to the game for the Flames: secondary scoring and discipline.
The Flames, like most teams, play better when they don't have to kill a half a dozen penalties. Staying out of the box was a big part of their last win.
Its been said before, but it is worth saying again. All eyes on Bennett, Jankowski, and Lazar. This line needs to get on the score sheet in the worst way. The success of this team moving forward is tied up in these three young men's ability to perform.
I would like to see the Janko-Bennett-Lazar line get more 5 on 5 minutes than Stajan's. Also would be nice to see Janko take Brouwers spot on the pp and move Tkachuk up to Versteegs spot on the pp. Two moves that will help jump start the pp but won't be tried, oh well. Go Flames!

Also most GDT's end up being buried once the actual game starts. I have no issues with how they are being created now. All the relevant information gets posted regardless if its on the first post or later on in the thread.

Kulak won a spot in training camp but wasn’t exactly a standout. I got the sense he was the best option out of a generally mediocre prospect showing (many people had him behind Andersson too). Given playing time though he looks pretty decent. It makes me more hopeful that other prospects may not be as far away as they seemed in camp. I guess we’ll see if there are further injuries (knock on wood there aren’t).

Yeah, the number 6 defenceman is never going to be a permanent guy. Kulak will, I expect, hit rough patches form time to time. At the moment, and likely going forward, he is the better option. But a guy with NHL experience like Bart is just fine to come in for a while, and when he pays attention to detail, uses his skating properly and plays physically, Bart is just fine.

Agreed.
My concern with Kulak was the way he started well last year but then faded significantly. He wasn't ready mentally or physically. And I wasn't impressed with his training camp this year either. So I wasn't holding out much hope - and frankly, didn't really think he deserved to make the team.
However, he has been very solid since getting into the lineup. I am still waiting to make sure that he doesn't fade again, but I am optimistic, and I am looking forward to being completely wrong about him.

A replica of last year's Penguins game would be awesome
It was the game of the year. Certainly a lot better than the Collie McDoggie show from the Penguins' previous game. I expect the same to happen again this year.
