If management feels that Jankowski is better off development-wise in Stockton, rather than riding the pine ala Lazar and Hamilton, it's not that surprising.

Well that would imply that management feels that Tanner Glass should play against NHL'ers... which is more concerning.

Every year we hear some version of: "We want lots of competition, but if a young guy shows he's ready, we'll make room for him."
Well, Jankowski has shown he's more than ready, so they better make room for him if they want to maintain credibility with their prospects.
I really don't want to hear the "better for them to get over-ripe in the minors" line for a guy who is 23.

Unfortunate. Glass needs to be cut loose. The guy is a veteran and he played this preseason like it was the playoffs and he looked good. Once competition ramps up he is on the waiver wire

It's telling though that Glass is still there as of this morning. What is he going to show them between now and tomorrow that he hasn't already? If he weren't in the plans, he'd be let go today. They don't even need him just for a body at practice. I'm convinced they're keeping him.

Until Glass is signed, that's all speculative. I'd rather the 4th line be
Stajan - Lazar - Brouwer

Stajan, Lazar, Brouwer, and Hamilton were all noticeably worse than Jankowski.

I tend to agree. Glass put everything he had into getting to this point and as the season progresses he either lowers his level of play (in his mind he made it) or he will plain burnout (age) on the 4th line or he will be injured due to the effort and grind needed to play the style he has thus far, just to keep the spot.

Six of our twelve forwards were drafted and developed by the Flames, including 5 of our top 6 players, so I think they have some credibility there. Jankowski has played well and deserves to be on the opening night roster, but Treliving isn't talking out his ass about our young guys getting chances.
Hopefully they don't sign Glass, or cut and waive Brouwer.
Also none of this could matter in a week as we're bound to have an injury or two up front.

Not sure what more Jankowski could have done at camp to earn a spot. If they're not going to start him out on the wing, then I'd rather see him in the lineup and Stajan in the press box.

Wouldn't Jankowski have been sent down with Gillies and Andersson if this was the case? Seems more likely than sending him down on his own, separately.

Do the Flames have to release him today? Why? Could they merely be keeping him around until he gets a contract from another team? I am pretty sure that Versteeg was in the Oilers camp until Day 1 of the season.

That is what I am thinking. Without a doubt the Jagr contract has complicated things, and it will take some time to sort it all out. It appears likely that Jankowski will likely not be on the ice in Edmonton, but I believe he will still be here.

I'm putting this in the category "I'll believe it when I see it".
Janko is still with the team. He's earned his spot. The brain-trust for the Flames deserves the benefit of the doubt until they ACTUALLY do something stupid. Glass hasn't been signed. Jankowski hasn't been assigned. Hamilton hasn't been given a start yet.
As others mentioned -> maybe the Flames take a game or two before deciding whom to waive?
Heck -> at this point the actual Jagr signing could still happen on Thursday, thus meaning the Flames don't have to make room for him until after the opener!??!

Nope, they don't need to release him today. But they have until tomorrow to get the roster set, they have extra bodies there today, and he took regular rushes on the 4L while they moved Lazar in and out of the RW spot.
Are they doing him a solid and letting him practice in hopes another team takes a shot at him? I guess, but given the optics what option do you think is more likely?

If it wasn't for the fact that Glass was getting regular line rushes at practice, I'd think they would be leaning towards an AHL deal with him.
You'd think it would take about 10 seconds to sign him if they offered an NHL deal.

As Jagr most likely won't be playing on Wednesday, I don't think Janko is going anywhere.

There's a little thing called the salary cap that won't allow us to acquire Duchene. Unless you think COL wants Brouwer and that he's willing to waive his NTC. And that's very unlikely.
Duchene is not realistic. We don't have the cap space for him.

Okay, I get that. But I still tend to think that if Jankowski has not made the team, then he would have been sent to Stockton with Andersson and Gillies. Why is he still in Calgary?

Not sure if extra practice time will get a team to jump and sign Glass. Either way, why would they mess with the few remaining practices with just 2 days until season opener so they can be nice to Glass? I think he's here to stay. If not, I question management's thinking more for this move then I would for signing him!
