While true, that is a very good Jets team on offense and it was a circus of special teams / shooting gallery.

Not overly concerned about the shot count.

Bennett centers Gaudreau and Ferland.
Monahan centers Tkachuk and Versteeg.
Backlund centers Brouwer and Frolik.
Jankowski centers Lazar and Jagr.

Then we trade Brouwer and replace him with Poirier.

Just what you want to see from some of the veterans in preseason - progression.

Smith: terrible in his first game, decent in his second game, and fantastic in the last game.

Giordano: exactly the same thing

Backlund too. He and Frolik: easily their best games of the preseason - especially Backlund.

I thought Bennett was the best forward tonight (again). He isn't the Flames' best centreman yet, but he is starting to put himself in the conversation. I thought Versteeg was great tonight as well.

Now that Bartkowski is in the #6 spot (instead of the top pair), he looks fine.

I think Glass will be int he opening lineup - another good effort.

Jankowski will be in the opening lineup without a doubt. And he looked good out there with Bennett.

Tough night for the top line, the bounces just weren't going their way. I also thought the Jets' D did a good job of draping themselves all over Johnny.

Darren Haynes @DarrenWHaynes
Gulutzan says Janowski between Versteeg and Bennett in third period was the plan going in. Wanted to give him some reps with different guys.

My speculation is Gulutzan is going to start the same lines that ended last year (the 10 game streak) because he trusts those guys to get off to a good start.

I think Jankowski has forced his way onto the starting lineup but the coach has hinted at roles and it's unclear what Jankowski's might be. The handful of shifts with Bennett was interesting so we'll see I guess.

Was at the game. Real solid game for Smith. What stood out to me was how he came way further out to challenge Laine in the shootout, forcing him to make a move rather than shoot. Really like his competitiveness even in a pre-season game. Gave a huge fist pump after stopping the last shot.

I honestly don't care what position Bennett plays as long as he produces.

In the OOT scoreboard, Juuso Valimaki just dominating in his first WHL game of the season.

1g 2a 3pts +3 4 sog in a 5-4 regulation win over Everett. Valimaki scored the game tying goal with 3:15 left in the 3rd. Named 1st star.

Default Flames win, but....

Flames win, but I think they were the second best team on the ice. Smith was great! Even if you are a hater of the Jets, they do have some skill in that line up- Ehlers, Laine, Scheiffle.

My biggest complaint about the game was the brutal refereeing.

I know there is love for Janko, but to be honest, he was a non-factor in the game.

Ideally, if the Flames could improve their forward speed and skill, I could see them being a threat in the playoffs.

I like what I saw from Smith tonight. He's a very confident goalie. Nice to get a win.
