Yea, we tried to upgrade at RW with Chaisson... didn't work. No point in trying to upgrade that position ever again.

Thank you. I deleted my comment because I called him an unknown commodity and then saw everyone commenting and figured I'd get roasted for not knowing much about him.

The Lazar and Shinkaruk deals are fine. Lazar for a 2nd was fair value given the potential of both assets. Flames were going to lose Granlund anyways cause Hartley didn't know how to use him properly.

Raymond was a 3 year deal for 3.5 million, demoted after one year to the ahl and subsquently bought out. Bad signing through and through.

If a chiasson type trade can be done and a reasonable contract can be signed, I don't mind the risk. Good size, can skate and can play hockey. Good age grouping too. Seems like a guy that could make some jazz playing along side Bennett.

Good:
- Scored without powerplay time
- Big
- Right shot
- Age fits with team

Bad:
- Poor possession metrics
- Undisciplined (negative differential as a forward)
- Unsustainably high shooting percentage for
- Unsustainably low shooting percentage against
- Hasn't been a relatively high scorer at any point in his life
- Joe Sakic wants him in return for Duchene...and if Sakic/the Avalanche wants you, you know you are bad. Jim Benning is also a fan.

Which goalies did he play in front of and did they affect his PDO?

Let's assume this to be true. We don't need another Ferland... we need a guy who will do better than Ferland. Getting another Ferland just uses up assets without improving the top line. One of the Ferlands would end up on the third line, where he'd have less value than the one on the top line. I'd rather look for a more meaningful upgrade at the deadline, or try Jagr.

I think it would make sense to trade Kylington.
There's no way all of the Flames defense prospects all make it to the NHL. It might be smart to trade one of them now, while the value is still high. I would much rather trade for a young player like Anderson than a simple 2 month rental. Please no rentals.

Valimaki and Fox are definite no trades.

Need quality over quantity.

We have Frolik and then......

Right hand wingers:
Versteeg
Brouwer
Lazaar
Hathaway
Hamilton

Frolik is good enough to play on any line without harm but let's call him a second liner. Versteeg is a 3rd liner an pp guy. Brouwer is dead cap space 4th line
Lazaar is 4th line guy that projects to play 3rd line and PK.
Everyone else is depth.

Okay so here's the thing, every single winger we have who can play RW is a complementary player at best and a liability at worst. This allows other teams to play more aggressively in their own zone and overload coverage on our stars. This team needs a RW with a shot so fierce that teams won't double team Gaudreau. Ferland is the only guy close, that's why he gets the spot. But he's still only an average offensive threat at best.

We need a Jeff Carter, Phil Kessel, or Patrik Laine

AND a Wayne Simmonds type to replace Backlund someday.

For comparison sakes: Left shot wingers

Gaudreau
Tkachuk
Frolik
Ferklund

LHS centres Bennett, Stajan, and Jankowski could also end up on wing at some point.

Less quantity+ more quality= strength at the position.

My point: don't aquire the depth guy who's name I forget.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
No movement on RFA front with CBJ/Josh Anderson. Club wants 3-yr term ($1.85M AAV); player would do one-year QO at $735K. Sides entrenched.

Seems like a no brainer to me for Columbus, just do the 1 year deal. Apparently they really don't want him to have arbitration leverage next year.

As in, CBJ doesn't want him to have arbitration leverage next year if he has another good season?
I guess he must think he's gonna be worth more than 1.85M pretty soon

With their cap situation going forward they literally can't risk him getting an arbitration award they can't fit into the cap. Puts them in a terrible trade position.

That even looks like the Bouma contract.

I think it would be better for Columbus to just take a 1 year deal.
