I will be surprised if the Flames sign any of their PTOs, and picking up Nolan on waivers will force them to keep him on the roster all year. No thanks.

Glad to see that Jon Gillies is still being considered.

With Andersson being a RH shot and our team deep at that position, and with GG wanting his L/R pairings on defence, does anyone else think that Andersson getting the extended look is because we're shopping him around?
I think the same thing with Gillies. that those two are part of a package we have on the table.
Bah, it's probably my imagination getting the better of me, but i have this suspicion that the Flames are rumoured to be "in" on a lot of deals because we have an offer on the table and leave it open. It seemed to work that way for both the Lazar and Hamonic deals. I wonder if it's there again but involving two guys who seem to have come in with strong camps.

The kind of players the flames brought in on PTO is a gritty/nasty 4th liner. Nolan seems a more effective player of that mold than any of the PTOs.

Yeah, I would agree. I think he gets the full game in Vancouver playing with Stone and a decision is made based on that.

But unlike Nolan, the Flames will be able to move one of Glass, Gazdic or Cramarossa back-and-forth as they please between Stockton and Calgary. For the minuscule upgrade that Nolan might provide it is not worth it to keep him in the NHL all year.

IMO Andersson has earned the 6th spot. Handedness is secondary to icing the best line-up.

Hmmm... the PTOs would have to clear waivers should the flames want to ship them to Stockton. No different than Nolan, no?

Yea I'd go Smith and Gillies.
With Gillies I honestly think it's mostly rebound control that needs correcting, some adjustments on his angles too, but IMO he's outperformed Lack from what I've seen.

So...with Lack...can we waive him? (good chance a team would claim him as a backup?)
I really don't see Treliving doing that but just wondering...

Quotes from Foo:
Quote:
"It's a big learning curve, college to pro. It's disappointing, sure. But I've got to take this the right way. I've just gotta get used to some little things, improve on some aspects … the speed and the sticks and just the brains of the game. It's different. Everybody's better.
"You can't just snap your fingers and adapt to the pro game. Obviously I want to be here. And I'll be back. Soon."
|
Quotes from/about Lomberg:
Quote:
"I'm closer than ever before, but that's what makes it harder, too. Being kinda right there. It sucks. You're disappointed, upset … everything. But it's a hard league to make. It's not my job to make these decisions. It's my job to be ready when I get the call. I'm going to use this as motivation to get better. I'm looking forward to be as ready as I can the next time I'm here so I don't find myself in this situation again."
"Travel days on the way down are never fun. But I can assure you I'm not going to go down there and be flat, unmotivated. I've never been the guy who's bitter and slouches around. I'm the guy who takes the news and wants to prove people wrong and show them I do belong."
|

Treliving has no doubts.
"He lets it all hang out there. I have a real sneaking suspicion we're going to see him again. It could be (soon), it could be in a week from now, a month … I don't know. What happens up here plays a part, too, but Ryan has partial control of that. By how he plays. How he competes. How he continues to build his game."
"The progression of Ryan Lomberg, from two years ago when he wasn't even on the scene to today, is a great example for everyone. He came in with the attitude: You are going to know I'm out here. I am not just here to blend in.
"I told him when we talked: 'Removing the disappointment of today, look at the steps you've made from a year ago. Be proud but don't be satisfied.'
"I don't know when it'll be but, as I said, I think we're going to see Ryan Lomberg again, too."

Gazdic is not a PTO, I've gotten confused between him and Glass before as I think others are. At this point, I hope we cut the 2 PTOs and Gazdic, Gillies in net, and I would actually rather see Andersson in Stockton than up here. I think we keep Bart in the press box and risk nothing, while Kulak has proved he's NHL ready in his multiple stints up here.

If Gazdic and one of the two PTO's make the team, why the hell do we need more than one goon? Is this just to KO our way through Edmonton?

I'm not really surprised by any of the cuts. Gillies still being around is interesting though, I wonder if he has a legitimate shot at beating out Lack for backup.
The most disappointing cut is Wotherspoon. He has been given so many opportunities but just can't get over the hump. I'm guessing this will be his last season in the organisation.
