Yes we do (he has already done a stint in rehab)...though the cause of his addiction is unknown.

Assigning blame is one of those things humans love to do that does nothing to solve the problem. We love to judge people and place them in little convenient mental categories so we can rate ourselves as to how we compare to them. For addicts, judgement, blame, and stigma are additional obstacles to be overcome and make it harder to recover. Most addicts have trouble being honest with themselves and their families. When they consider the blame and stigma it becomes more likely that they justify their decision to keep themselves hidden and avoid treatment. The addict usually already knows they have messed up; shame can be a big driver in continuing addiction.

At no time did I say there was a contradiction between saying people need help but should also accept responsibility for their behaviour.
This is the most truth I've ever read on CP, but now back to lurking on topic threads...

He put together a great career though; nearly 1100 games and 800 points. Kinda surprised to see he was so effective for so long.

Surprised they weren't. Doesn't everyone carry a gun in the US?

Ok. Can you enlighten me? When does it start? I ask because if you have people depending on you, i find it tough to understand how you can't catch yourself in early stages.

EDIT: I'm not chirping you either. I'm curious....i get the usual story that it starts small, but when you have people depending on you, then its hard to see other than someone with mental illness that should have been noticed/treated.

Rehab is big business in Florida. They do tons issues to get addicts down there and then there is lots of talk about the rehab places basically trying to get people to relapse so they can get more insurance money out of them.

Quote:
But lately, South Florida has become the focal point of rampant insurance fraud that relies on a lethal cycle of intentional failure, authorities say.

“The incentive is to keep them in this relapse system, this gravy train that doesn’t end until the person leaves in a body bag or an ambulance,” said Aronberg, whose opioid task force has made more than 30 fraud arrests. “There’s no money in sobriety.”
There's an article on the Athletic about Ken Daniels (Red Wings announcer) and his son.

Quote:
Palm Beach County, where Jamie went to get treatment, is ground zero for a crisis called “patient brokering.” And young, unsuspecting addicts from the Midwest are often a prime target.
Criminals lure those with strong insurance coverage into their treatment homes in order to run up excessive charges to insurance companies with the ultimate goal of another relapse, to reset the entire process and extend the money-making cycle. The consistent payoff is in the relapse, not the recovery.
It’s called the Florida Shuffle.
“In a predatory model, what is driving this isn’t patient care and outcomes,” said John Lehman, chairman of the Florida Association of Recovery Residences. “This is a revenue source. The insurance card in the wallet of the kid is going to be milked for every penny it’s worth.”

^Thank you Pete Moss. I honestly wasn't aware it was a problem. Not surprised that Florida physicians would do that mind you, but I just wasn't aware.
