I think at some point people do go for blood work. Asking to get your Vitamin D checked when you do that isn't a big deal. Do you need to go get it checked before you start taking some Vitamin D vitamins? Probably not as most people are deficient.

I'm just saying it isn't that hard to do yearly checks and ask your doctor to check certain things you feel you might be deficient in. I had low iron last time I gave blood which was completely unknown to me, and certainly not something I would ask my doctor about nor ever dream of taking vitamins for.

Without the blood test I would have had no idea.

Seems sketchy to say the least...

I think Vitamin D testing is NOT recommended for most people. First off the test is inaccurate and there is also a lot of variability to what is "normal".

Personally, i take a vitamin D supplement in the winter/fall. Adequate Vitamin D is linked to good bone health.

Totally agree. This kind of broad testing garbage just puts more strain and wasted resources on the health care system.

My wife makes me take a multivitamin every day. My wife, though not peer-reviewed, is far scarier than science.

Is there something in the specific research cited that is incorrect?

When I was in the program initially, it was actually free.

Yes big red flags : Here is a disclosure from the paper about healthy people needing greater than 5000IU of vit D.

Data Availability
The authors confirm that, for approved reasons, some access restrictions apply to the data underlying the findings. The data described in the present manuscript were obtained from a third party: The Pure North S'Energy Foundation. The authors' arrangement with the Foundation is that they receive access to their data only for the purpose of statistical analyses and scientific publication of the results of the statistical analyses. This is also captured in the institutional health research ethics approval. The authors are not the owners of the data and not in the position to share the data with others. If readers would like access to the data they should contact Wendy Paramchuk (ac. htronerup@kuhcmaraP.ydneW) who is the executive director of the Foundation
.
They are essentially using their own internal data as the research that supports what they are doing.
