Treliving confirms that Rafikov is a defected player and will retain his rights in perpetuity

In negotiaions with Ollas Mattsson, would like him to continue to play in NA.

Well... until he's (Rafikov) 27. Happy to hear about Ollas Mattsson, he was really good value in the 6th round I feel.

I didn't get that impression at all. He really emphasized that if they do bring him back they lose an asset (3rd).

Man I'd love to see Ollas-Mattsson signed and then have him improve his skating.

6'5" 220lbs + defensive Dman would be a great find in the 6th round.

There are different rules for defected players.

Quote:
The NHLPA filed an unfair labor practice charge against the NHL with the National Labor Relations Board in New York today, The Post has learned.

The action by the Players’ Association immediately followed notification that the union had lost its grievance against the NHL regarding “defected player status” for drafted and unsigned Europeans.

The league’s victory in that grievance as awarded by arbiter Richard Bloch, essentially gives teams the rights to these players into perpetuity for as long as there is no IIHF transfer agreement between the NHL and international hockey federations.

Treliving is very good at the PR side of his job.

Hopefully that kills the rumors that Ferklund is going to either be moved or exposed "(HF garbage)

Treliving was pretty high on Ferland, saying that he feels like he's "only skimming the surface." Also said that he views him as a high skill player.

He better resolve this ongoing goaltender carousel soon as it could be something that ultimately upends what has been an otherwise highly successful tenure-ship thus far.

At some point you need to find a solution for a team that is approaching its window of opportunity.

So Mark Jankowski is pegged for the NHL pending he doesn't lose it at camp.

So that makes either Bouma and Stajan disposable

Treliving really needs to figure out the goaltending.

I am hoping he can pull off a blockbuster somehow. Schneider/Price to put the goalie carousel to rest for good.

I am just tired of these "band-aid" fixes every summer. Getting a legit No.1 would make me very excited for next season.

If the Flames had a Murray, Rinne, Anderson, or Talbot it's entirely possible they're playing in the finals this year.

Goaltending has to be solved properly this summer.

2017 1st, Gillies, Kylington for Schneider?

2017 1st, Gillies, Bennett for a signed Carey Price?

Too much, too little?

Considering he went for a 1st in his prime, I have a hard time believing he would go for substantially more at 31 yrs older after a down season. He maybe gets the 1st but adding in Gilles and Kylington seem like a big over payment.

That is too much.

I really want these playoffs to be over, so we can get to the exciting stuff.

Somehow getting rid of all 3 of Bouma, Stajan and Brouwer would be ideal.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Justin Williams (2 years @ 3mill per)
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Bennett - Ferland
Lazar - Jankowski - Chiasson
F.Hamilton/Hathaway

Gio - Hamilton
Brodie - Stone
Alzner - Andersson
Wotherspoon

Schneider
Johnson

So… Get rid of Brouwer, because signing 30-something wingers to UFA deals doesn't work out, and then sign Williams because…?

Fair enough. Maybe just a 1st and one of those prospects?

I just get the sense that NJ doesn't really want to move him so it might take a pretty enticing offer.

He was moved for the 9th overall in a stronger draft when he was younger.

2017 16th overall + Jon Gillies for Schneider might be closer value. It would suck to lose Gillies but you have to give to get I suppose.

It's so hard to trade for an elite goalie. You either draft one (in what position doesn't seem to matter), like Price or Rinne, or trade for a promising backup, and hope they pan out, like Kipper. Even a move like Talbot works out only some of the time. Roman Turek was the highest touted backup in the NHL when the Flames got him.

Bishop is the only top goalie I can recall getting moved in recent history. Miller and Luongo were moved but quite a few years after being a Vezina candidate.
