My favorite game and the ones I played to death were:
Super Contra
Warcraft (over the modem with a friend...addicting!)
Mario Cart
Madden 2004
And in that order!

Tecmo Bowl was awesome. Bo Jackson was unstoppable.

TECMO BO!
On a side note, Madden has become so addictive for me that every year, I buy the new one the first day it comes out, and I always know what day that is months in advance.
I consider Madden Day to be my number 1 holiday of the year. Right ahead of Christmas and Friday.

This thread got me jonesing for the NES games, and since I don't have a console anymore, I downloaded an emulator and Blades of Steel and spent my lunch hour playing that. A few things about that game that I'd forgotten that just bring a smile to my face now.

I think I ran on that thing once until i realized that you could go much faster pounding on it with your fists...for those who played, cheetah was no match for the fists of furry!!

I saw on TV that you can mod emulator roms to change things. It would be sweet to edit Blades of Steel, and make the Calgary Flames.

EDIT:
Seriously, there are just too many to list. Lots of good ones already listed.
The old school adventure games like Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max, and Monkey Island are right up there. Games with real humour.
Battlefield 1942 and Splinter Cell more recent ones.

What got me addicted was Bards Tale (I and III, II sucked). And Wasteland.
Starcraft LAN parties were awesome. We would 3 computers set up in the kitchen, two in my bedroom, two in the den and one in my brothers bedroom.
And Warcraft was a favorite at a company I worked for years ago. We had to take a trip to Boston, so we used the laptops for business during the day, and Warcraft in the evenings.
Oh, and the game I have played most from beginning to end is Baldur's Gate.
And I thought I was the only one that remembered the Contra code.

Anybody else play Intellivision? The handsets had a disk to control the characters, and my brother and sister and I used to wear out the thingy underneath the disk, and my mom had to keep buying new pads.
We had a cool move on Lock & Chase that allowed us to pass many a level...
Bump & Jump was pretty slick too.
|
oh yeah.
never since played a baseball game, that played like intellivision baseball. want to throw it to second?
hit the button for second! whole diamond on the keypad, amazing.
had all the sports games, plus astrosmash.

Old school brown and gold Intellivisions didn't allow the controllers to be replaced. They were hard wired to the console.

I remember playing Tecmo Bowl for so long one night that when I went to bed and closed my eyes, all I could see was that screen with the 4 play options on it. I thought I was going crazy. This ever happen to anyone else?
|
Definitely my favorite of all time. We'd play entire seasons with 3 manually controlled teams in one night. We'd keep track of the stats as we played season after season too. I remember being blown away when weather conditions were added to the game. Man, that was huge!
Other favorites include...
Super Off Road (otherwise known as Grey Guy in my circles)
the old pinball machine "Cyclone"
Gyruss (arcade version)
Nintendo's Super Dodge Ball

Those hockey games were the greatest but what makes '94 stand out over the rest of them? Weren't they virtually the same except for the stats?
|
I think it was because it was the first time anyone had the one-timer in their games. I remember my friend telling me there was one-timers in the game and i didn't believe him haha. good times.

Zelda III - A Link to the Past. Hands down the best game for Nintendo.
For PC - Its the Civilization series as well as Halflife. Honourable mention must go to BF1942, never was a fan of CS..

No, no, no! Not the entire controllers!
We had to replace the thin electronic pad underneath the disk INSIDE the handset. I don't know what it's called! But we played it so much that we wore a circle in the circuitry, and then the circuit pad would need to be replaced.
And Looger, baseball on the Intellivision rocked! Sometimes simple is best... B-)
