I don't think home ice is in the cards. Five points is a lot of ground to make up in four games. If the Flames run the table, they need the Ducks or Oilers to be sub 500 and both teams a very hot right now. The best the Flames can hope for is 3rd in the Pacific.

And the Sharks play the Canucks back to back next few games. And the Oilers do too. Division is out of the question now but I don't think it matters that much. Hopefully we face the Oilers in the first round, that's all that matters.

I think the Flames play better on the road this year, probably due to less pressure from the media as compared to play at home. I don't see a an advantage to start at home. But for fans it will be more exciting to have a home start

I'd like to see Andersson and Lazar suit up but I think the two Ducks games are still important for many reasons. To keep pace, and to take notes on where the team stands in a match up.
Ducks are rolling, Flames keep rolling, should make for game of the night.

Well of course the Organization isnt going to say that, and the term 'afraid' is probably incorrect.
The regular season and the playoffs are damned near two entirely different sports, guess which one Chicago was built for and excels at?
Yeah, if you can avoid being their first prey you damned well do it.
Barring a miracle Chicago is the team coming out of the West.

There is a chance to catch Anaheim because the Flames play the next two against them but need to win both to close the gap to a single point. Anaheim still plays the Blackhawks and the Kings after that.

We could call catch Anaheim, probably won't, but if there was a team 5 points back from us and we had to play them twice still, we would all be freaking out. It's possible

Too many variables to worry about our first round matchup right now. Only certainty is that if we keep winning, we have better odds of avoiding a first round against Chicago.

I didn't realize the gap between season and playoffs was potentially so airy...that definitely should help us out considering how compressed our schedule has been. I still think giving some players, especially those with any injuries or issues, a day off would be beneficial considering the battle we are about to go into...but perhaps it can be more of a case by case thing.

Also, if their only goal was to make the playoffs, then they had pretty much sealed their goal when LA was 11 points back, so they could have rested/nursed injuries back then.
They're not fighting for 1st place, but they're fighting for playoff position, as is every other team in the West.

Sounds like Jayswin is an owner of the team when he guarantees and speaks for the team going forward that they will not sit players because they are worried about facing Chicago in the playoffs. This is how I read his response.

There's 4 games left? I would prefer the Flames rest whoever needs rest, today and next game and play your playoff line up both of the last games so the team is in sync.

i'd like the flames to get Johnson one more game, with Lazar, Wideman and Andersson each getting a game as well. We need each of those 4 to be ready.

A beat down on the Ducks is needed to help push out those demons. No better place for that than the last regular season contest in front of your home crowd. I expect intensity from the Flames - everyone watched last nights game in Edmonton and our players will want to demonstrate likewise. Coasting tonight just seems like a really bad idea.

I hate games like this.
After fighting hard for 3/4 of the season and making an amazing come back and having the emotional release of clinching on Friday, the game after might have an emotional flat line.
Here's hoping that doesn't happen. But it might be human nature for this team to take a collective breath.

It would be like not playing your top players in the pre-season to see what you have down in the farm. I know where that got us this season.
