Long break after a hot streak, 5-0 loss against Arizona and 6-3 loss to Tampa.
Lets break that today.

People don't make bets like that unless they kind don't mind the outcome of the loss...........work crush perhaps?

I hope so. My pregame ritual involves playing it out in NHL 17 with me locked to RD. Usually the scores are pretty modest. It was a spirited affair that led to a 2-2 deadlock - MTL scores on a bs PP, Johnny ties it, Tkachuk scores on a broken play in front, MTL ties it on a Weber blast.
At that point midway through the 2nd, the Habs defence all just started hanging Price out to dry, which along with some fortuitous Flames puck luck led to some spectacular results which led to Price being lustily booed off the ice with the backup in net to start the 3rd.
Final score was 10-3 Calgary (and the 3rd MTL goal was my fault because I went puck-hog with Dougie attempting to go coast-to-coast in the final few shifts)

Let's see what this team is made of. They've been cold/hot/cold/hot all season long. I'm worried after this crazy good hot streak, that another cold streak is coming, and at the worst possible time. Let's continue to set the pace in the West!
|
The Flames have lost four straight games twice this season:
5–12 Nov (@ LA 5-0; @ ANA 4-1; v. DAL 4-2; v. NYR 4-1)
19–24 Jan (v. NSH 4-3; v. EDM 7-3; @ TOR 4-0; @ MTL 5-1)
They have lost three straight games once, in the first three games of the season:
12–15 Oct (@ EDM 7-4; v. EDM 5-3; @ VCR 2-1 S/O)
Otherwise, the Flames have not lost more than two in a row.
This notion that the team has run "hot and cold" is a myth. They had a bad start, and then were solid for two full months between mid Nov and early Jan. They had a "cold streak" of six or seven games in mid Jan, and have been blistering hot since.
There is no good reason to think that there is another cold streak on the horizon, unless you classify .500 hockey as such. I expect the Flames to continue the trend of winning more than they lose, and not losing more than one or two games in a row.

I see the virtual Wideman effect is still going on strong.

If I am reading this correctly, I would expect his save percentage next game to be .632. Oh, lucky it is the Flames!

What goes up must come down. Hopefully we're talking about Carey Price's save percentage, not the Flames play the last few weeks.

The recent media reports seem like the Habs' current win streak is really only powered by Price's resurgence, and they've been playing down to their competition in the last few games.
Could be an opportunity for the Flames to take advantage and get a win tonight. Unlike the Flames, it doesn't seem like the Habs' offense is firing on all cylinders at the moment, so hopefully our D can suppress them.
Should be a good test to see if our win streak is a result of strength in all areas of the team (forward, defense, goaltending).

My first thought was, that's crazy, they've had so many great goalies... then I remembered that most of them played in eras when full seasons were 50~ games.

"When you look at Calgary, you see a big team" said Julien,
I think our team is coming together. People are saying we are big yet we have lots of skill.
