This may not be a popular opinion, but I wouldn't mind seeing Hathaway being used as part of a trade. His trade value is probably at or near its peak. He is a RFA, he is waiver flexible, Playoff teams need sh*t disturbers.

The only way a Hathaway trade makes sense is as part of a deal for someone bigger coming back. On his own he is only worth draft picks and is far more valuable to the Flames than the return.

The Calgary Flames already need size and grit. Hathaway fills that need cheap. I wouldn't be trading him.

He'll be back the second there's room. Wouldn't surprise me if it's just a paper move and he never leaves.

That or he's back in a week when the roster expands.

Maybe, but it's not like they've been using him lately.

He's not worth anything though unless you want to collect 5th round picks. Every team has a handful of Hathaway's in their system.

No kidding. Or F Hamilton. They both stink.

Powerplay Quarterback

Freddie Hamilton can play center and wing, that versatility makes him more useful as a 13th forward than Hathaway being able to play RW.

I doubt you can even get a 5th for him. Type of player where you maybe do a contract swap with another organization to get a different position, or style of player. I don't think anyone would absorb him in waivers, or give an asset that could potentially become something.
He pretty much is Hockey's version of a replacement level player.
Las Vegas will pretty much be selecting 30 players who rate higher than Hathaway in the expansion draft.

Well he has a NMC so that's part of it.
But overall you might as well wait 7 days and see if anybody panics and will actually give up a pick for him.
After that fire him to moon for all I care.

For those interested in actually sending Dennis Wideman to the sun/moon/other celestial body, SpaceX has paid anywhere from $600 to over $10,000/kg to launch items into space. NHL.com lists Wideman as 202 lbs (91 kg).
Let's assume $5000/kg. It will cost approximately $455k just to get him out of the stratosphere. At that point, I don't even think the cap savings are worth it.

I would up the number to $10,000/kg. NASA charges more for toxic waste.
