If I'm not mistaken I heard Darryl Sutter doesn't say much if anything to the team after a game, unless it was positive reinforcement during a tough loss or losing streak.

At the time I thought that was odd and out of character, but it seams to make sense. I often refrain from from addressing co-workers and employees I'm upset with when I'm emotional, instead addressing them when I'm not so emotional.

It makes all kinds of sense not to talk after the game. Let the game sink in, then everyone have an intelligent take on it rather than knee jerk. Guys know if they made a bonehead play. The team knows if it crapped the bed. Save it for video or practice.

Also, I dislike Torts and I have my doubts about his effectiveness especially over a long term. However, that doesn't mean that everything he does is wrong or that his assistants could take nothing of value from coaching under him.

it's not unique. good coaches do not hype their players after a win like bob did. good teams are just winning.

Gulutzan approach. Make sure your team almost gets scored on 20 seconds into the game.
Makes sure the team is still flat to start the second.
Lose game 5-0.
That is the Gulutzan turd approach.

Hope he didn't talk to the guys after the game, it would have been emotional and that doesn't help anyone, best to wait until tomorrow to throw garbage cans around, that's how Torts does it.

He had no problem talking to the press and pointing fingers though.

All I know is I'd hate to be around him when that Irish temper gets going, and that bottom lip starts quivering, and he fights back the tears. All the tell tale signs of a fiery Irish temper, I assume.

Lol at Francis asking him; "Don't you think it's extreme to put Johnny on the 4th line after one giveaway?". Warrener also not a fan of the move.

What did he say about JG?

I don't think the approach of waiting until the next day to address the team is necessarily bad. It should really depend on the situation. If he is he is stubborn and refuses to be flexible on his approach just because of principle, then that could be a problem though. Sometimes the silent treatment works and sometimes it doesn't.

The inexperienced GM maneuver of finding the next great young coach when coaches with tenure (and Stanley Cup rings) are passed over (and/ or fired). It is a rookie mistake that has been tried time and time again and usually costs the GM (and the coach) their job.

Didn't Nieuwendyk go down with Gulutzan in Dallas? So dumb of Treliving. The writing was on the wall in big 6' tall red letters...

(Hot take alert) On the surface its extreme to demote your top winger after one mistake, but its likely more of a collection of mistakes and straying from the plan over a number of games that did it.
