That was atcually part of a legit goalie strategy that he had. Hasek eas bosrn with a rare joint condition that allowed him to move any joint in an almost 270° rotation.
My dad being a goalie dad hated him immensely for his flop and thought he was a bad goalie for me to emulate but once he found out recently in the last few years he understood why he did so.
