Part of it is that (as others have pointed out repeatedly) Saddledome ice post-flood is terrible. Too bad in a city where it's -30 in the winter that it isn't better.

I was watching them clean the ice and even said it in the GT that it's going to be a game with a lot of bouncing pucks and turnovers. It was, but only for the Flames somehow. 17 turnovers for the Flames and 3 for the Lightning.

The ice is an embarrassment to the NHL.

It was bad pre-flood too. I was actually hoping the flood would force them to get new equipment and in turn make the ice better.

Things were very flat for most of the game.

Johnson had an off night.

The officiating was pretty unbalanced with the calls. Bishop was really wound up and kept hitting punching players and was only called once.

There was some line shuffling plays.

Coach played it well with the brief 4 on 4 by getting Johnny out on the ice. Was nice to see that.

I thought Elliott was awful again I think he deserves the boos the guy flat out sucks. Hw is not the reason for the loss however. It seemed like the Flames came out flying for the quick power play goal and sat back and didn't get much going until the third. Too bad Bennett couldn't make it 5-4 but that is the breaks.

He had a .923 SV% tonight coming in for relief while down three goals. He was good tonight. Give him a damn break.

Edit:

The only "top" guy (and arguably The top guy when at his best) on the team that hasn't rounded into form yet this season. Good to see him get a couple points, but that +/- is an eyesore and I don't think this is a case where the stat is misleading. We really need the good TJ that can play strong over all 200 feet right now.

+
Bennett dummying Namestnikov
First 5-6 minutes were great
Ferland was pretty beast.
Monahan quietly had one of his better games
PP went 2/4.

-
Ferland's no minor penalty run ends.
Possession was bad during the crucial moments.
Johnson was beat by point shots. Needs to have a good bounce back game Friday or we are back below .500
Gave up a shorty. Poor rebound by Elliott and softer effort by Versteeg.
Engelland's non-coverage on the 1st Boyle goal was a back-breaker.
Bennett got outmuscled a lot.
Gaudreau didn't look great, kept to the outside.
Team generally looked slower and weaker than the opposition and I don't mean the effort. Just looked outclassed once the Lightning put their foot on the gas.

The rebound goal he gave up was a back breaker and while he stopped 12 shots I thought he looked pretty shakey. As a fan watching I have no confidence in him. Hopefully his teammates feel more confident with him in net than the fans. He looks nothing like a number 1 goalie that he was brought in to be.

2 of the 4 shots Johnson let in were deflections. One was a breakaway. He'll be fine.

Tough game. 0 execution, passes were all over the place and poor decision making. Looked like a team that gad a few days off and maybe took part in some holiday festivities

Johnson had a rough night as well. Hoping they look like their previous selves come Friday.

Tampa looked better in every aspect of the game tonight. Faster, grittier, smarter. They looked like a bona fide playoff team playing great hockey without their superstar player. I didn't think it would be that obvious. We are not there yet; that's for sure. Sigh...

I want Elliot to get the next start. Give him a chance to bounce back

I beg to differ. When the Flames are clicking and playing their system properly, I think they can compete with just about anybody, and we've watched them beat some pretty good teams over the last few weeks. Full credit to Tampa for playing a solid road game, but the Flames beat themselves in this one more than anything else. After the first 5 minutes the team just looked out of sync and then got into penalty trouble. They made a strong push in the 3rd, and if they had converted on at least a couple of the numerous scoring chances they had, this would have been a much different game. The bounces just didn't go their way tonight.
