If your solid site finished narrow plank hardwood is showing gaps after 80 years, best you reconcile with the warranty.

Can anyone recommend a good flooring store where one can look at a variety of quality laminate/vinyl flooring options ? I know there are many flooring stores around, just looking for recommendations based on good experience. We are looking to upgrade some of our flooring and are leaning towards laminate or vinyl.

Try Timbertown in the NE. They have a few dozen different types on display.

Talk to Bigtime. Tell him you're from CP and he'll give you a great deal (aka regular price).

At risk of highjacking this thread, I'd like to get some advice from CPers on refinishing hardwood. Thought about starting a new thread but since this conversation is ongoing...

My house was built in '62, has typical hardwood from that period. Previous owners had covered it with carpet, and then removed it, which left tiny holes everywhere the carpet was nailed down to the hardwood (mainly around the baseboards, but still quite noticeable).

In most spots the hardwood is still in pretty good shape, but the finish has worn off in some of the higher-traffic areas, and I want to get rid of those little carpet holes. What I'm wondering is:

1. Has anyone attempted sanding/refinishing hardwood on their own? Is it an easy job or is it best to pay a bit more and have it done professionally?

2. Would excessive sanding be necessary to remove those holes/blemishes left by the carpet?

Thanks in advance.

Sanding isn't that hard. I installed site-finished hardwood in my place once, and that included sanding it all down. Get a good sander with vacuum attachments and it goes pretty smooth. It's just a bunch of work.

Since my install was for new wood I can't comment on if you can get rid of all the holes. That would be a tonne of sanding, I would think.
