So this 3rd rounder will turn out better than Ferland?

Trading away the most consistent physical player who can skate and has some skill away for a 3rd round pick sure seems to fill some holes.
I would be ecstatic if a 3rd round pick brought back a player that was as good as Ferland. I would consider that a home-run. This team needs another Ferland or two. Part of the reason why they suck (IMO) is that this is a team that is too soft and doesn't have enough swagger. It is an easy team to play against.

Yup, Second season in the NHL, Actually becoming a more consistent player while getting 3/4 line minutes, TRADE HIM!
Why not see how he develops? What if we trade him for a 3rd round bust and he becomes a 40 point player?

It's a draft pick, nobody knows. Ferland hasn't been a useful player since his playoff series against the Canucks.
He doesn't hit, doesn't fight and doesn't score. What exactly is his role?

Yeah let's just keep the same team and same players. The over rating of Flame players is pretty funny. Ferland has 7 goals in his last 87 games and has been good in maybe 10 of those games and invisible in the rest.

I'll indulge you for a second here. Assuming you trade Ferland for magic beans, who do you bring in to replace him?

Anyone, Flames players are all overrated. Any player that isn't wowing you every night is immediately replaceable from the AHL of course.
Well, except our AHL team, they're overrated by association.

Literally anyone on the farm can't be much worse than Ferland. He's been awful since his playoff series which made fans think he was more than he is. For a big "skilled" tough guy, he should have a lot more than 7 goals in 87 games.
He hardly ever plays physical and doesn't fight. Do you actually think he's been playing at an NHL level?
And I think you guys are under valuing a third round pick. Teams just don't give away third round picks. I think that would be a good return for a player who has been as inconsistent as Ferland.

Ferland has been fantastic this season, one of the few bright spots, IMO.
I think you're way off base here.

A Ferland is a Ferland but a draft pick could be anything...even a Ferland!

Backlund, Ferland, Tkachuk, Stajan, Brouwer, Frolik have either been as advertised or exceeded expectations. Kulak on the back end.
Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Chiasson, Bouma, Versteeg, Shinkaruk, Giordano, Brodie, Hamilton, Jokipakka, Wideman, Grossmann (gone), Engelland (to a lesser extent), Elliott have either been underwhelming or just no good.
Gaudreau is the only one from the bottom group that looks to be really coming around. Brodie is skating better, but not contributing very much still.
That bottom list needs to be a lot shorter than the top list before we're going to be competitive.

This keeps coming up and I always think it's such a weird thing to say about Ferland. I double checked just to make sure I wasn't imagining things, and Ferland is currently 35th in the league for hits at 37. He finished 24th in the league last season (and had nearly 100 more hits than the closest player on the Flames....Joe Colbourne).
Add to that he's currently tied for 3rd on the team for points and I hardly see how Ferland is part of the problem right now.

Taking a while to get to 5000

When people think about Ferland throwing hits they focus on the Vancouver playoff series a few years back. They expect that sport of play constantly. No one can throw hits like that night after night during the regular season.
