All that time and diligence put into their search, and this is the coaching staff they bring in. One that lets the team just phone it in, while making zero improvements to the special teams.

It's embarrassing for fans.

Awake me from hockey hibernation when this team has a pulse again, thanks.

Playing the advanced stats game. Look at our shot attempts!

No danger. Perimeter plays. Ducks took away our time and space. We let them dance around. Takes 3 guys to win a board battle. Out manned, out hustled, out classed.

We're just not a very good team, and on top of that we're boring. Rather lose 5-4 than these boring advanced stat system games..

This game was so F'in predictable.
With my buddies I said: Anaheim goal in first 2 mins. Nope, 2:30.
They will score on first PP, yup.
They will score on third PP, yup.
7-1 loss, close.

This is improvement!..
The problem is our goaltending has actually been good this year.

For those with hockey insight, is it normal for successful coaches to come in and adapt to the players he coaches based on their strengths? I just keep seeing our top players really struggle and I worry that for the next 20-30 games we will hear the same thing from Glen that the players are still learning the system and haven't completely bought in.
You need to have a team system in place that can be relied upon to fall back on. But you also need to allow your best players some room to do what they do.

An example is the stretch pass. It looks like theyre not allowed to do it anymore or something. The system calls for breaking out as a unit, and that's fine, but when there's an opportunity for a 2 zone pass guys like Gio and Brodie have to have the green light to make it. A guy like Johnny has to have the green light to bust into the holes that he sees. Don't build your system around it, but let them utilize it. Tough to know what he's telling them about stuff like that though.

There are other problems though. I've never seen JG with so little compete for the puck in board battles. I think the cheap shots he takes are starting to get to him.

Treliving, end of last season:
"You can't be 30th in special teams for a large majority of the season,"

Treliving, upon firing Bob Hartley:
"Our special teams, for a good portion of the year we were 30th in the league."
"Special teams, those are critical areas to have any type of success."

Calgary Flames special teams, 2016/17:

PP - 28th
PK - 29th

Flames are the softest team in the league.

Or does BT or BB have the balls to bench one - or more - of the coaches?

(The answer to both is "no".)

Get used to a frustrating season, cuz nothing will happen until the end of it.

Where do you start? With the salary cap issues, you can't sit three or four of the high paid boys. It won't happen for a home game because that would take too much from the fans in the way of expectations.

I know. We actually don't have a single player or a coach to blame this year.

Admittedly I didn't watch the game so I'm not as emotionally invested, but man, I would sacrifice a lot to have the Flames beat the Ducks at the Honda Center. I'd give even more to see them absolutely embarrass to the tune of 10+ ala Columbus.

Oh well maybe next time...

Don't worry, it's all part of "the process". Treliving is an absolute wizard, who makes the best moves of any GM in the NHL.

all of Wideman, Jokipakka and Grossmann have not played at an NHL level this season. Hard to get going when you only have 3 top 4 defenders, a #6, and a rookie that has been up and down all season (Kulak).

Look at the goals against.

1st - multiple shots, no clearing the puck = goal
2nd - tic tac toe passing play leaves the defenders going what happened.
3rd - goalie makes the first save, not the second one because Gaudreau did a poor job on the backcheck.
4th - replay of goal #2.

The Flames defense has been beyond horrible and that's due to not having any secondary depth.

I thought by now the team would have a good grasp on the system implemented by GG. It is clear that I am horribly mistaken and this needs to be changed fast. I gave GG rope to start the season but it is clear no progress is being made and they look awful. A change is needed, Treliving needs to figure out what that change is and make it fast before he himself loses his job.
