1. Bob Cole.
Some say he's starting to make more mistake than ever these days, but Bob is one of those individuals that Canada grew up listening to. No matter how many mistakes he makes during a game I'll never get tired of listening to him call it. Always brings me back to being a kid watching HNIC with the family.
2. Doc Emerick.
Come on, with that voice and those catch phrases how can you not enjoy his commentary?
3. Chris Cuthbert
Was sad to see him leave CBC and join TSN. Really enjoyed watching the late games with Chris at the helm
4. The Boston commentators on FXSports
Homerism at its finest, but dang they have that great Bostonian accent that I can still hear in my head.
Guys I can't stand:
1. Dave Randorf
Good god, I'd sooner listen to Nickelback being fronted by Celine Dion and Chad Kreuger for the rest of my life than listen to this guy. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard. If there's a game on that I'm really looking forward to watching and it ends up being Randorf calling it than I mute the darn thing and watch it in silence. No joke. This guy makes my ears bleed.
2. Peter Loubardias
Never could get into liking his style of commentary. I found he trailed from the play too much.
3. Jim Hughson
Canucks. enough said.
4. Glenn Healy
What a KNOB this guy was. Thank god he's gone. Moronic tendencies at its finest.
He is terrible I agree. There was a reason why when he was employed by TSN the best gig he could get calling was the Spengler Cup. I wince every time I hear his voice.
Rick and Kelly are amazing (I am biased), but I'm also really enjoying Louie DeBrusk as the substitute colour guy.
I thought I would hate Debrusk but found myself not hating him at all when he does Flames games. For an oiler fan boy I think he does a great job filling in when Hrudey is gone.
I have only seen a couple oiler broadcasts and each time it was Remenda. Did he take over for DeBrusk?

His wife was transferred to a great job in London, so the only work he could do for TSN was in Europe.
Doc Emerick's voice gives me migraines. So does the Caps colour commentator's.
Ugh. Yes. There's a big difference between someone actually being bad at calling hockey and having a grating voice - you can be annoying and still call a good game, it's just some people won't be able to listen to you do so. Emrick is like that for a lot of people, though I think you can just get used to him.
But the Caps broadcasters are the worst for this. They sound so fake, like they're trying to put on some bad-ass affect to their voices. Beninati sounds like a 130 lb dude trying to make his high-pitched voice sound gravelly and tough because HOCKEY IS FOR REAL MEN. Laughlin, meanwhile, sounds like he's had some sort of medical episode that's left him with a speech impediment that makes it really hard for him to get syllables out. Every word sounds like a huge effort, it's exhausting to listen to.

I think Hughson gets a bad rap because of his years of Canucks cheerleading, but that is ancient history. His call of the Flames Game-6 win in the first round of the 2014 SC Playoffs was brilliant.
He has always been a terrific play-caller, and now that the Canucks have absolutely nothing going for them Hughson is rightly considered among the best in the business.
Am I the only one who really likes Good Miller?

I just got here. Came in to mention Gord Miller. Dick Irvin and Danny Gallivan were great when I was a kid.
And Rod Black can go hang out with Healy and Cox anytime now.
Cole can retire anytime now too please. People go on and on about his cadence etc. Never really liked it and if you are just listening to him and not watching, you would honestly have no idea what is actually going on in the game. He is horrible for actual play by play right now.

Gord Miller is an outstanding PBP guy, IMO. Upper echelon for sure.

Ed Whalen. Man he was awesome IF you were a Flames fan. What an absolute homer the guy was. It was like listening to a fan called out of the stands doing the PBP. It was OK though since the broadcasts he did were only regional.
One guy not mentioned is Don Whitman. He was my favorite HNIC PBP guy of all time. He made some epic calls in the BOA days, and also during the 04 run.
