Ultimately his staff is Gulutzan's responsibility, if he didn't want the staff, he shouldn't have signed off on it.

He's not going to decline a head coaching offer in the NHL based on his control of a couple of his associates.

Then all aspects of coaching are his responsibility. If the PP sucks, take Cameron off it.

Unfortunatly, I am losing faith on current management to do things right anymore. Last year, the 3 headed goalie fiasco was caused by management. This year, the coaching fiasco was caused by management. Whether Tkachuk deserves to go back to Juniors or not, you cant evaluate him properly when he is playing on the 4th line with plugs. That is on the coach.

I'm OK with Tkachuk going back - again haven't watched a lot, but from what I've seen - he may be OK this year in the NHL, but I'm not convinced he doesn't have more to learn and grow from within junior.
Nothing wrong with sending him back.

Tkachuk has not been playing on the 4th line with plugs for any significant time. He has been given a lot of chances in the top 6 with quality linemates.

Johnson was the only reason the game was close last night. Why is Gulutzan keeping the same lineup except for him?

The next two games are back to back with the 2nd against St. Louis again.
Elliott was going to play again. Not too bothered with the decision. Leaves Johnson to face St. Louis again.

There is so only so much GG can do with the lineup since its the top guys that are playing so horribly. Although he might want to consider how ice time is distributed since maybe some of the top guys need to be embarrassed a little.
I agree with sitting Tkachuk. I would keep him up here in the press box for another 3 or 4 games. If the team can turn it around, then give him a couple of more chances playing on a team that has some confidence. If the suckage continues, send him down and let him play junior rest of year and give his ice time to AHL callups.

Did they practice not taking penalties? Or even not taking lazy penalties?

Since Johnson lost against STL last night (not his fault), I'd like to try Elliott against STL on Tuesday as something different. Since it's a back-to-back, that means putting Johnson vs CHI tomorrow.

I can't blame the coach.
The effort isn't on the ice. Giveaways are a real problem. Bad passing attempts right through the middle. JG is getting beat up and it's time to take some real penalties to deter that. They still can't really knock guys off the puck in the defensive zone.

Keep in mind the 9 games are games played by Tkachuk, not 9 games of the Flames' season. They could be over the entire season if they wanted, but if they send him down he can't be called back up until London's season is over, or if there is a need for an emergency call up (e.g. Sven a few years ago). He still might get his nine games, he still might go back to London, and he still might stay with Calgary all year. Sitting in the box for a game or two isn't going to change that. It can be good for a young player to sit up there. Gaudreau did it, and Bennett's been there too. They sit with Conroy, get quizzed on the game, and get to learn.

Or Elliott plays back to back. Has to get through this so have him play his way through it.

went to NHL.com and for a very brief moment, I thought the Flames were already down 0-2. Wouldn't even be a surprise at this point.
