It really sucks that the amount of cracks on my tv is related to how well a bunch of strangers play a game vs an equally talented bunch of strangers. Maybe I just need a rubber remote for the rest of the season.

1 out of 8 possible points to start the season is indeed something to be very concerned about if that were to happen. I believe the teams holding a playoff spot 20 games into the season are typically the teams that in fact make the playoffs so you don't want to be too far out by the 1/4 mark of the season or your fate is likely decided early.
