What's the purpose of having 2 extra Ds on the roster?

Great mix of useful, experienced, wily vets and explosive, young talent. Having stable goalies could mean this team makes some noise this year. *fingers crossed*

I must be taking crazy pills.
In fairness I did only see about 2.5-3 games worth of exhibition, but...

Am I the only one who liked Wotherspoon more than Kulak?

The full game I watched I thought Wotherspoon was steady and mostly not noticeable. I think that is good for a defensive defenseman. Kulak on the other hand turned over the puck and just looked out of his depth. He was noticed for all the wrong reasons.

Is it just me?

Or they are trying to work a deal for Engellend or Wideman. Though Kulak loses if neither can be moved in a reasonable period of time.

I think we've got a playoff team here, folks.
I like it! Was worried looking at the projected lineups after the last preseason game, with Gaudreau out, options like Vey and Ferland on the top line, really wasn't looking good. This rounds things out and looks promising. Personally still want Brodie and Gio together however that will work itself out if these pairings don't wok, and I just wish there was a way to get Wideman off the team.

Pretty sure it's just you. I haven't seen much praise for Wotherspoon for quite some time.

Kulak scored nice goals, was skating all over the ice and making all the right plays.

Wotherspoon did nothing to stand out and definitely got caught out on some bad goals.

Kulak was a good defenseman in camp. If nothing else, allowing him to "make the team" in a symbolic form makes me feel better about the usefulness of camp. If the point was "who needs meaningful minutes and who's contract is expendable" then it's not really a sports competition, it's a business strategy. Treliving wouldn't be able to criticize Shinkaruks performance in camp (or any other prospect) and in the same breath turn around and cut Kulak even though Kulak was one of the better players on the roster. Shinkaruk and everyone else could point at the hypocrasy as an excuse and deflection, knowing they never stood a chance anyways.

You can't ask people to put in an honest effort for a dishonest opportunity

Not sure why he thinks splitting Giordano and Brodie up is a good idea. That pairing is so good.

The problem with the Gio-Brodie pairing is that we have 3 RHD that theoretically deserve to play in Hamilton, Engelland, Wideman (I know some will say Wideman doesn't but we'll leave that for another discussion. So having Gio-Brodie together means we have to play two RHD together with one of them on their off side or we have to sit one. IMO the Wideman-Engelland pairing last season with two righties was not a good pairing.

So while I agree that Gio-Brodie is an elite pairing if Brodie can make the switch to the left side it will balance out our pairings a lot better. Guess we'll see if he looks more comfortable at it this season. Last season Brodie did not look as good on the left side. Wouldn't surprise me if Brodie swaps back to RD next season if Engelland and Wideman both leave.

Gio and Brodie on the ice for 25 / 60 minutes

VS

Gio or Brodie on the ice for 50 / 60 minutes

There's some merit to the latter.

Kulak could have been sent down and Grossman didn't need to be signed. Maybe we will really see Wideman or Engelland traded.

Pollock to the ECHL? Ugh

You know who spent significant time in the ECHL? Brett Kulak. Kulak then made the Flames opening night roster the following year. Not the end of the world for Pollock.

Who are the centers in Stockton? Freddie Hamilton made the Flames. Jankowski is the #1 center. Is Priybl playing center? The Heat don't seem to have much center depth.
