I'm not opposed to this mindset at all, in principle, but you also have to keep in mind that like others have mentioned guys like Parenteau and Pulkkinen were recently placed on waivers. My edit is probably relevant here as well.

Versteeg is a much better veteran option than the PTO's like Higgins or Vey, would be a welcomed addition on the cheap. I think that as every season goes, injuries will happen and young guys will get chances from the A. I'd rather start my season with veteran wingers and let the young guys play in as the season progresses. If we are going to make the playoffs we need a fast start.

Versteeg is a complementary offensive player. If you pick him up, it's to play him in a pinch in a specialist, PP and offensive role. Chiasson is not that
