Whats the going rate for a contract coming off a PTO? League minimum?

I like it from name recognition only, haven't watched him play much in a number of years.

Burke had Versteeg in Toronto too.

To look at every minor move and say "what? This guy doesn't fit the plan/identity" is to ignore the salary cap world we live in.
I'm not opposed to this mindset at all, in principle, but you also have to keep in mind that like others have mentioned guys like Parenteau and Pulkkinen were recently placed on waivers. My edit is probably relevant here as well.

Versteeg is a much better veteran option than the PTO's like Higgins or Vey, would be a welcomed addition on the cheap. I think that as every season goes, injuries will happen and young guys will get chances from the A. I'd rather start my season with veteran wingers and let the young guys play in as the season progresses. If we are going to make the playoffs we need a fast start.

News Update

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Sources indicate Versteeg deal will be 1 yr, likely under $1 mil.

Dear god why

Versteeg is a complementary offensive player. If you pick him up, it's to play him in a pinch in a specialist, PP and offensive role. Chiasson is not that

I thought he looked good for Edmonton during preseason. Of course, that was preseason, and I had my usual pro-scouting drinks in me.

I don't get it. You are better off with Shinkaruk.
The view of the organization may be that Shinkaruk's development is better served playing a more significant role in Stockton with other developing layers instead of playing a minor depth role in Calgary.

Would this be to tell him about Versteeg? Or possible trade?
