I hate to say it but the oilers are slowly improving. All they need is a good starting goalie, a good back up goalie, a #1,2,3&4 defenceman, a few more top 6 guys, some depth veteran help, a good coach, a good GM, a new front office and a new mascot. But they've got a decent bottom pairing at least.
I guess they're doing it really slowly.

@FriedgeHNIC sounds like a stop gap until Brent Burns is a UFA after this season
I would love if they signed Burns, $7m x 7 would look great in their cap structure. Then, a year later, they could have McDavid, Lucic and Burns taking up about 23m between the three of them.

Why wouldnt SJ resign Burns? they got Marleau and Thornton coming off the books, and even if they stick around they would only be paid about half of what they are paid now.

I think we can probably agree that 2016 Oilers have better management and roster balance than the 2014 Oilers. They could have the best player in the league a few years from now and instead of being sarcastic like you are, im actually excited for the BOA for the first time in years.

I don't agree with that at all, it's the EXACT same group of guys except they added Pete "lose every trade" Chiarelli. What's so friggin great about that?
It's only a 1 year deal, so the cap hit doesn't matter much.
He is a bit overpaid, but it doesn't really matter. Edmonton is probably done making moves now, and they don't need the extra cap space for this season.
So does that now open the door for Nakladal to now sign

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

If I was a hockey player I would take quite a bit less $ to play in SJ than in Edmonton. Hockey decision and a much better climate!
To put this into perspective, according to NHLnumbers, the Oilers' D-corps (with Russell) would be running them $26.947M (less Ference's $3.25) to $23.697M.
Compared to the Flames' $29.717 (less Smid's $3.5M) $26.217M.
They are almost paying that sad-sack blueline more than we are!

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
@DarrenWHaynes
Many enjoy ####ting on Russell but his 26:24 TOI over final 20 gm of 2015 got Flames in playoffs. Selfless player, good for him to get paid.
