Agreed. Different coach. Same result.

Now, just send Rittich down and release the PTOs and they'll be at a 23 man roster -- 2G, 7D, 14F.

I think they said thwy wanted to stay at 13 forwards.
So cut all PTO's, send down Rittich, and waive Bollig

I like Wotherspoon, I just don't think there's room for that type of defensive Dman anymore

And I agree, its not that Wotherspoon is 'bad' or 'not good enough' he just doesnt bring enough to the table.
The league is moving in a direction where having a big shut-down guy isnt enough anymore, hes also got to be physical and move the puck.
And you've got to either excel at some of these, or be steadily good at all of them.

Is Rittich injured? There's no reason to keep him in Calgary otherwise.

I think he's not even good enough at the shut-down aspect, at least not for the NHL

They kept him up just in case Elliott or Johnson got hurt prior to the last two games. He should be heading to Stockton today.
They also may have done it so Elliott didn't have to travel to Vancouver last night (I believe Rittich was dressed as the backup) since his wife just gave birth.

I think a Kulak-Engelland bottom pairing will work quite well. Engelland looked pretty darn good when paired with Brodie and Kulak plays a similar style.
I would like to see Vey gain some confidence, I still think he can be a solid NHLer but he needs a year distraction free and to just concentrate on hockey.

Ah... that's why.
I knew about the Elliot baby. Didn't realize Rittich was the back-up.

And that speaks to your point. You have to either have a high all-around skillset, or excel at something.
Wotherspoon does neither.
And this disappoints me greatly because of the Battle Cry implications that his name provides.

No reason? That's simply not true. Sigalet it likely the reason, they are probably working on something specific with him.

The correct spelling of 'Accpeted' is 'Excepted'.
Not surprised Wotherspoon or Vey waived. Happy that Hamilton has made it this far.

Doing the math, if the waiver exempt Fs go down (Hathaway/Shinkaruk) and the PTOs are cut (Higgins/Korpikoski) and Vey goes down, that leaves them with 12 forwards. Somebody's staying here.

I am sad Wotherspoon's let others jump ahead of him. I had high hopes for the guy but last night I saw Wideman jr out there on skates. And that Wideman JR without the offensive potential.
Vey, needs some time. The RL things set him back a bit and a figure a couple of months to get into the swing of things will help him out. There were a few positives I saw out there but he needs time to hone his skillset or at least get it going again.
I figure Vey will be a valuable call up mid season.

I have to think Hathaway makes the team as well.

My guess is Korpikoski, he at least looks like he has something left in the gas can. Higgins looks flat even if his PK skills are still good.
Even then, I'd rather both Shinkaruk and Hathaway stay over the PTO FW's .

My best guess would be one of Garnet, Hunter, and Lauri. Preferably one of the first two.

Remember Flames have not made any additional cuts.
Technically this is only a waiver wire.
Vey or Wotherspoon still could be on the roster.
I would think Grossman will be released.
