Good god no, to Tanguay. Impossible to replace Gaudreau with a PTO level player.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I doubt very much that Johnny misses any games, but if he does miss 5, 10 or even 15 games, that would be a great opportunity to play both Shinkaruk and Tkachuk and see how they do.

Bringing someone in, for a short (and undetermined) period of time, makes no sense at all.

We could kick the tires on Raymond? Sure the asking price from Anaheim wouldn't be so high.

It's pointless. There are precisely zero people the org can bring in now to be a 1 line replacement, there are zero people the org can bring in now to realistically try and strongarm Gaudreau and his agents into signing quicker, if the absence of Gaudreau (and whatever replacement you could find on September 6) would lead to a surefire 2-8 start then the org has bigger problems.

And frankly... if there is someone out there now, that the Flames could pick up, that could be a 1 line replacement for Gaudreau until his contract situation is worked out then that guy should already be on the team. Seriously... it's not like we have that much depth.

It would be tremendously unfair to put Tkachuk in that position if Johnny was present. Asking him to fill that role in his absence is borderline malicious.
Malicious? He'd have to earn it but he's got the talent. Tkachuk is of the same quality as Monahan and Bennett IMO and more NHL ready than Bennett was due to size. He's top 3 in terms of elite draft talent we've taken in the past 20 years. Don't see anything malicious about giving an opportunity to one of our most skilled young wingers.

But of hyperbole there don't you think?

We're going to lose the Stanley Cup final?

The guy in the thread just below this one, Kris Versteeg. But just for training camp.

Yeah, he's not signed, so we should just not even bother to plan.

Fantastic post indeed.

I don't really understand this thread. One of our other current players while a slot opens at the bottom of the lineup for a fringe guy until the situation is resolved?

Pretty much the same thing that would happen if he (or any player) was injured.

Looks like he's been playing in the Austrian League where he has been putting up almost a PPG the past 4 years.

I think Treliving is making a mistake not signing Gaudreau before the World Cup. Chances are Johnny will go and be a dominant force on the ice, playing with McKinnon, McDavid, etc and thus demand even more money. Sign him now and be done with it.

If Johhny Gaudreau isn't the Flames' first line LW, who he is traded for will be.

Damn, why aren't you on the Flames payroll? You should totally email BT your thoughts, not only will us fans and the Flames finally get JG locked up, but I bet it's the start to you becoming our new Assistant GM.

Just get it done with, bet BT hadn't even thought of that.

I wouldn't mind seeing Mr. Lombardi. He was always one of my favorite Flames. Speed to burn.
